^plays gradius for the story
LOL..... I didn't expect it to be true.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

So, out of curiosity, which shmups do you recommend for their story?
Also, do you think story is more important than gameplay?

I don't think he's around anymore, but i think he had a thread devoted specifically to the topic not long ago. Not sure.

lulz

I think it's important to have some story. I like a small emotional reason to be doing what i am. I like it more when the story makes no damn sense like Radiant Silvergun though.

Usually i just imagine i'm the pilot of the ship... it helps fuel my need to dodge the bullets as skillfully as possible.

Every time a story bit comes on that i have to click through it's annoying. Giga Wing being the worst example i've played so far. To this day i've not read a single line. Just start the next stage/let me fight the midboss damnit!

I did forget to mention that i dislike breaks in the action though. There's nothing worse on the shmup flow. I'm saying beginning and ending cinemas and nothing more. Everything else should be done in game, with voices if anything - no subtitles or breaks from fighting any worse than a stage clear screen.

Introducing the Start button.

They should have some scrolling text at the bottom. That would be cool. Or voice overs.
