U.S. Saturn Model 2, and Action Replay for imports

Post by themachinist »

I'm looking around to buy a saturn locally and someone has a US saturn model 2 ( round buttons?) and a few games for $40. I'm looking to get one of those carts that allow you to play imports or maybe region mod it (eh). Good deal? Yay or nay?

edit: after looking around on eBay looks like they go for like 30-60. depending on what's included.

would i be better off modding a us saturn or just going for the jp saturn?

It's my opinion that going for a JP Saturn would be easier. I just say this because Saturn mod chips are few and far between.

Actually I know where I can get a mod chip already, but what about that cart that allows you to play imports I've heard of? It exists right?

I guess I'm a little lazy to search around for a JP saturn. The ones i see are usually up there in price.

Yeah there are carts like the one you speak of. They are called Pro Action Replay 4M Plus or something to that effect. They'll save games, let you use cheats, play imports, and act as a RAM cart in most cases. Worth about $25 or so

Awesome, thanks. Looks like P-A's got the "Action Replay 4m Auto Plus" for about 30ish shipped. I'll have to pick that up.

The problem I have with the cart is (I have the Datel one) it has to boot the cart ROM first and then take you to the dashboard, at which point you can load your import CD. This takes a few extra seconds (not long, but its an extra step) AND I find it works 1 time in 5.

Wow 1 out of 5 times? That's sort of.. really wack. I was leaning on that action replay cart.

Anyone have experience with the one listed on P-A?

Some of them are just poorly manufactured; there's nothing wrong with the firmware itself that makes it unreliable.

The Action Replay is better than any other one of those carts. No need to listen to what that guy said about his, it's just a worse brand

I have a US Saturn with round buttons and a 4MB Action Replay. In short, it rulz. The flash backup memory is handy too since you can avoid losing all your saves when the Saturn's battery runs out.
