Favorite Cave scoring system.
Can't remember if this has been done. Here's a thread where some are compared if you need a refresher.
Forget playing for fun, which scoring system do you prefer? Feel free to explain your choice.

The only ones that I manage to do OK at are Ketsui and ESP RaDe, though Progear is fun, trying to get those constant diamond streams is great. Galuda (1) is OK.
DDP series is fun to play but I don't like playing for score in those. Mainly because I can't do it.
I don't understand Guwange at all.
Never clicked with Mushi or Futari, and have not played Pink Sweets, Galuda II, MMP, or Death Smiles :(

Good point, i like Dangun's a lot tooptoing wrote:I really like how simplistic the scoring system in Dangun Feveron is, as well as the low scores you get. Ketsui is good fun as well, DDP gets a bit too anal for my tastes, esp DOJ.
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

Though my opinion isn't worth much (still very new to the Cave shmup generation), i voted Dangun Feveron for its simplicity.
Here's the only Cave i've played:
DonPachi/DoDonPachi [~30 hrs]: very enjoyable but i will never chain full stages, most tedious scoring concept ever. The no miss score bonuses and such i do like.
ESPRade [~10 hrs]: fun but i have no fkin idea what's going on with scoring, might hate it once i do.
Dangun Feveron [~5 hrs]: huge rush, so far my fave Cave. zomg i understand the scoring system without reading a strat guide.
Progear [~2 hrs]: can't stand horzies, no idea how to score.
Guwange [10 min]: i hate games i have to read a strategy guide to even understand the basics (tho i'm sure i'll get to that eventually and give it the time it deserves).
So as you can see, i've hardly played any Cave for advanced score (and possibly never will), so you can probly subract 1 Dangun Feveron vote if you want more poll validity.

Definitely ESPgaluda. It's the most open-ended, free-style, and least anal of the Cave scoring systems that I've played. If only the game were more difficult =)
I actually don't mind enemy chaining in Dodonpachi, but in DOJ it's just... so strict at points. It's like trying to learn stage 4 of DDP for EVERY DAMN STAGE, starting at 1!@#$ I still love the game though =D

Have you ever tried to play it on mame with rotated screen and adjusted controls? Feels odd, but works pretty well, only thing that is REALLY odd, is those bullets which are affected by gravity going of to the right sideviniciusvbf wrote:Progear
If progear was a vert, it would be the best game ever

This would be a good poll if it was still 2004.
The list is missing the unique scoring systems in Futari 1.0, 1.5, & Black Label (2 core systems w/ 9 variants), Ibara BL, MMP, and DeathSmiles. Lumping all of those into "something else" is a bit of an oversimplification. Also, where does Galuda 2 fit in?
