London Meet VI! (Mar 1st and 2nd '08 definite)
I know ATEI deserves a second thread by now, but as everyone who went is reading this thread from what I know, here's the Eurogamer coverage of the show.
And no. I didn't add the captions for the pictures, so don't blame me for the joke about bunking off school.

Rest assured, next time they're letting me add the pic quotes

I am not sure if my email got to you - I was there but did not know if we met. If you would like to be added to our trade enewsletter which will have a show write-up let me know.
Good to see the consumer media covering the show, I wrote a piece last year for EDGE, but it was hacked to pieces. Getting the popular press to cover amusement is like pulling teeth - and they do sulk so when we break news.
All the best,

To me it was easily the most enjoyable game on the show.
At first it seemed like a cheap ass rip off of DDr, but there are more and different concepts as well, some of them enormously fun, especially PvP.
One of the locations with the game had a very cute girl demonstrating and promoting too... (though even I could beat her on PvP).
Anyway... this could be a real winner with bigger audiences as it looks and probably is more accesible than DDR games (play-wise).
Also the "Let's go Jungle Special edition was extremely enjoyable". Actually makes you feel your are riding that jeep and just feels right. Wind blowing in your face, getting rotated by the machine to face different directions. Using 2 guns myself (since I played single) made me feel like a bad ass too.

Kinda loved all the fuzz about the free play switch off on the Tekken 6 machine too. Shame for the dedicated fighter crowd turning up, but the outrage about it was amusing. Shame I didn't get to play the game though... there was always a big crowd around it.

This Blazing Angel Cabs were quite nice too btw, though using "real" plane controls made it disorientating to me at times. I am pretty sure it was me not being familiar with these controls though. Beautiful graphics and exciting concept made this one to look out for.
Another fun game was Banpresto's Wack Racers. Somwhat reminded me of the DC game (even in the graphics department!), but the feature of the "one armed bandit" for getting weapons was different and, well...ok.
Playing 4 player was pretty fun too.
And still can taste those delicious free hotdogs when I think of them now, with the killer mustard. (yum)

But aside from the ATEI show, I thought it was very nice meeting up with DEL again and actually see his amazing skills on again (Pinks Sweets mainly this time).
I am certain he'll manage to activate this "bug" in the game soon if he keeps playing like he did (and has the patience
). Met his successor as well, though at the time he was mainly concerned getting some sleepy time. Really cute kid though.
Thanks again for everything and especially your hospitality!
Also nice meeting the famous (especially of his Star Force plays) KAC in person. Really nice guy, and having some personal problems I'd love to have myself
. If he wants to get rid of his "burden" I can always give him my email and stuff.
Met Masamune as well, though he was mainly interested in playing Tekken 6 (as his his profile would suggest
. Major thanks to him for taking the great pic of me with Sonic the Hedgehog too...

You're right Mr Laydock - sorry I didn't get it all in. Word count restrictions are a real pain. I could have written double what I did on the various amusements. I think I got a little more in on the Gamesindustry.biz piece.
Anyway, far too off topic, and sorry if my ATEI witterings have dominated the recent end of a meet thread. I'll stop now...

* The Mush vert screen only has two colours now, so err...I just dunno what the options are on this issue (LUN's not gonna be happy). I must sort this somehow.
* Muchi Muchi Pork will most likely still travel down with Icarus and if John the Boss is around I should be able to get him to do a brief install.
* Storm of Progear is in a good sit down cab with decent sanwa-type sticks.
Other games around:- Raiden III now in Las Vegas arcade. Strikers Plus in Casino, Strikers in the Troc.
I'll see if Masamune can come up with any ideas for Mush

Ok see you next time. You've already made it to one London Meet and one in Milan, which is impressive.I will unfortunately not be coming to this meet because the trip is too expensive for me to reasonably spend in![]()
See you guys another time ~!

Will that Strikers cab take a Sanwa stick if one was donated? I'd be happy to help out in any way I can.
Or, perhaps Galuda2 could go in the Progear sitdown.

So far, personal boards from me, ARC and ill6 have been installed in the arcade over the last three years. We do it for the players and its now the only way you can play a new shooter in a London arcade. We never ask for any proceeds, its a win-win for John the Boss, but even then he doesn't rush with the installations. He knows full well that shooters take less ca$h than Fighters. That dude's never-ending generosity and selflessness never ceases to amaze me. Does he ever see any of the money his PCBs generate?

LUNardei has already donated a Sanwa but I may be handing it back because Sanwas don't fit in the vert cabs, only in the sit downs. The Progear sit down is of course HORI, plus Progear looks very good in that cab and the sticks are new.
All I can do with the EspGaluda II (ex Strikers) cab is get the console switched over for one with a better stick. The screen should be fine.
Re: !
Yeah - I'm in love with Progear in that sitdown set-up. Though I'm really up for some new shooters getting the limelight, I'd be a little sad to see Progear move on!
Chaos Field and Night Raid are the ones I can think of aside from Progear and Strikers 1945 +, but I'm sure that's enough on top of all the Cave goodness, and the two Metal Slug games for the run and gunners.
Though hasn't Chaos field got a different name there?
There's a couple of less reputable shooters there too, that at least deserve to be added to the 'there for the meet' list.RGC wrote: So we're talking Mushi, MMP, Pink Sweets, AND Galuda2

Its not Chaos Field spadgy, its Chaos Heat - a rare 3D run and gun thing that nobody plays.
Progear stays where it is. Its in good shape.

Re: !
There's simply no other way I would get the chance to play Ketsui, Pink Sweets and soon to be, ESPGaluda II, so your generosity is most appreciated.
I would probably play more Progear in Casino if the screen displayed properly. As it is I can barely make out the ring/gem counter as it's half way off the screen.

Re: !
chaos heat is pants.. but its a JAMMA game and should therefore be easy to replace, i might be able to donate a board of somekind if you think you could get it installed DEL ?DEL wrote:Its not Chaos Field spadgy, its Chaos Heat - a rare 3D run and gun thing that nobody plays.

its a horisontal game tho which is a bit limiting but im sure i could find something decent in my collection... Gigawing maybe??
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..

I'm an idiot - especially as I was watching it the other day and smirking. I'm muddling up the real world with an imaginary one again...DEL wrote:Its not Chaos Field spadgy, its Chaos Heat - a rare 3D run and gun thing that nobody plays.

Again I've got my Ibara PCB, but I really doubt it's worth filling a machine with compared to the others on the list. But if something falls through Casino's half hour from my home.
I just can't wait for MMP and ESPGaluda II. It's kind of close now!

It was there, but I can't remember where. Didn't Pink Sweets replace Ketsui?
Rupert mentions Ketsui being there. Did I miss something and it's returning for the meet?
Finally, if there's anything I can help with setting up in the days before the meet count me in. I'm not sure if they'll be much I can do, but if there is I'm a pair of hands...

Chronology of our boards installed in Casino has been something like:
Ketsui by ill6, Batrider, Cyvern, Strikers 1999 and Sengeki Striker by me, Ketsui by ARC, then DDP by ARC, then Fire Shark by me, then Pink Sweets by ill6 and now EspGaluda II (all going well
) by ill6.

I can indeed get almost any new shooter installed in the arcade, but it should be from a local who can pick it up at a moment's notice.
On a side note:- All boards that are lent have a guarantee from the arcade and from me.

Why the hell can't they replace that awful Night Raid game with a decent vert cab.
Nobody ever seems to play that game and they would not have to pull one of the popular fighter cabs for it.
It was a mystery to why that game was still there. Does anyone EVER plays this game?!?
Casino managment should be sensitive to arguments for removing that specific cab and getting Ketsui in again. I mean they do want to earn money,...right?

So John the Boss should listen, but he is a much more difficult person to deal with than Bob, and Bob's basically emigrated back to Ireland.
Apparently, since Masamune, me and Fire-Bug got Bob to completely overhaul the arcade in the last two years, with requested Fighter titles and some newer shooters, it has actually made higher weekly earnings than the fruit machines upstairsCasino managment should be sensitive to arguments for removing that specific cab and getting Ketsui in again. That's amazing that the arcade makes more than the scaffolders' laptops upstairs. Shows there's still hope!
