Is the PS3 region free for PS2 & PS games?

Yeah, I was so hoping I could play my import PS1 games on my PS3, but no dice :( Probably all kinds if red tape to get through to undo the licensing/territory stuff that was established back then.

If you're lucky enough to track down a de-bug PS3, then they are region free for PS1, PS2 and PS3. Don't work as a DVD player at all though, but they do play preview builds of games.

Strangely they're easier to blag from Sony than buy (as if you have one you're forbidden to sell it), but they need a damn good reason to give you one...

That said - de-bug PS2's are two-a-penny these days, and they are region free for PS1 and PS2. I might be able to track down a spare. I'll see.
