Playing other-region/burned titles on a Saturn?

Post by Erinu »

I was looking at the Saturn of mine sitting in the corner. I have a handful of games that are PAL, US, and NTSC-J. I've never actually played them, just bought them because they were really cheap and picked them up locally. I suck at modchips and stuff, what else is there?

I saw a video of someone swapping discs but this looks absolutely ridiculous and I bet this will quickly damage my console.

So, is there a way of playing burned games and other region titles on an unmodified Saturn WITHOUT the swap trick? I saw this 4MB Action Replay cartridge which will play imports - but what about burned games? I simply am not paying $150-200 for games like Radiant Silvergun. Can someone tell me if this item will let me play all games from all regions, including burned ones? Thanks.

For burned CDs, I heard you have to mod it.

Burned discs require a mod job, imports require an Action Replay cart, I've got a Saturn on the way to me (got it free) first thing I did was ask the guys what was needed for imports, they pointed me to what I needed, and I bought one.

Is modding a Saturn very difficult? I've never done anything like that before. Most of the time you can get someone to install them for you. Unfortunately that isn't very likely these days.

I believe it was one way of saying "you're not supposed to ask how to pirate and play games on this forum". If you want to keep discussing how to run imports, then that's fine (also very easy with a simple hardware mod), but we can't allow links to modchip sales pages.

Swap trick depends on which model of saturn you have. Back in the day, my friend had a model 1, and it was really easy to do. so I got a saturn.. mine turned out to be a model 2, and it was ridiculous to swap, you have to get the timing exactly right. but once you get the hang of it, it's not too bad. it took me about an hour to learn. a tip: it is easier to do with the chassis off

here's a link to a tutorial

http://www.racketboy.com/retro/2004/12/ ... -swap.html

and i can indeed confirm that the swap trick works with backup copy CDR's. no use scratching up your expensive imports trying to swap them when a CDR works too

If you want to go to the burn game route please get a mod chip.

If you have the $$ I prefer spend it on games.

Yeah, see, that's the thing. The games I want are overpriced, impossible to find, and just plain hard to get. Radiant Silvergun, Taromaru, Garegga, etc. I'd buy them if they weren't so difficult to come across.

all of your posts scream 'I am unworthy of playing these games.' you come off like you only half-heartedly want them. we've all figured out some means so why do you deserve special treatment?

you're lucky to be receiving any help at all.

my advice to you- do your own research and/or try to be more resourceful.

QUIT BEING LAZY

All those games can be sold for what they are bought for. You lose next to nothing.
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

For the price of Taromaru it's not worth it.

Too easy and too short (abuse the shields).

Silvergun is worth it, but only get it if you want to commit to it.

Garegga I got it for $75 with spine.
