PS3 Backwards compatibility

Post by barmskii »

Hi All

As far as I understood it the hardware backwards compatibility (PS2) was taken out for PAL consoles and replaced with software emulation.

Then when the current 40gb models were released before xmas it went completely.

Strange thing is my mate bought a PAL 40gb model from gaystation just before xmas and it plays all the PS2 games i've thrown at it.

So i'm confused, is it in there or not, does he just have a special one???

I've asked at gamestation and HMV and just got the blank response I expected. They say it shouldn't work but none of them have actually tried and they refuse to open a box before I buy one so I can try it

Does anybody have a 40gb PAL model that they have tried PS2 games on???

Someone please help before I waste months trying to find a 60gb one that isn't depressingly overpriced!!!

cheers
Paul

As far as I know, none of the 40GB models are supposed to run PS2 games. Are you sure it's actually a 40GB model and there wasn't some kind of mix-up? Does it have two USB ports or four? What is the model number (should be on a sticker on the bottom and starts with "CECH")?

Buy one nice and quick mate - there's talk in the industry of phasing out the backwards compatibility in the PAL regions.
