Ketsui ROM fix
Ketsui ROM fix
So, is it just a case of swapping a socketed bios, no soldering?
The freeplay bug never really bothered me but I got my PCB out for the first time in months and it doesn't save the test menu settings and now I get it freezing in attract mode with a list of yellow errors when its not in freeplay ?!?! Might I have touched teh switch of dooom?

Ketsui.
I have the fixed bios mod which is just a case of unplugging a IC and plugging the fixed IC in, no soldering needed.
Before I swapped the bios the only problem I had was the freeplay bug so maybe you have other problems, try turning freeplay off and you should have no bugs.

proboably, it shouldnt freeze in the attract mode anyways regardless of which revision you have.SuperPang wrote:That's just it, suddenly I do. I'm wondering if I knocked the switch putting it in the AT.
what happens when you toggle the switch?
the destruction of everything, is the beginning of something new. your whole world is on fire, and soon, you'll be too..
Yeah, I must've hit the switch
thats exactly itFirst of all SW1 is a toggle switch. You can flip it but it will return to it's original position.
. Power up the game.
. Flip SW1. The brown switch to the right of the JAMMA connector.
. This will reset the game.
. Let the "Demonstration" start.
. The game will crash when it's writing "Demonstration" on screen.
Here is a video showing the crash: http://home.online.no/~an-tj/rtw/ketsui/ketsui.avi
This behaviour will persist even if you power cycle the PCB.
However if you start a game before it gets to run the "Demonstration" and let it end normally the issue will not occur unless you flip switch SW1 again!
To fix this behaviour do the following:
. Power up the PCB.
. Start a game before the "Demonstration" gets to run.
. Let the game end normally.
. Hit the test switch to activate Setup.
. Select "Restore Defaults".

Ketsui.
I know there was something different about Ketsui after swapping the bios, I could not work out what it was..Dave_K. wrote: (with annoying new lockon laser sound)

it was a joke.... kinda like the blue shadows/nick rox thing.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Actually it will freeze when the battery is deadsven666 wrote:proboably, it shouldnt freeze in the attract mode anyways regardless of which revision you have.
what happens when you toggle the switch?

When you do a "default" in the setup menu the correct values
are written to NVRAM and the board will work OK as long
as the battery powers the NVRAM. When the battery is dead
the correct values are lost, causing the craash.
Look here for the reson why you should never touch the switch...

Power on the PCB, enter setup, choose default and you'llSuperPang wrote:I think I might leave the rom then.
So if my battery is dead does that effect the procedure I posted above?
have no trouble at all.
Mind you, you have to do this every time you power up.

Of course it can be changed, however it might not be dead yet though.SuperPang wrote:No way.Can I get the battery changed?
Leave the PCB plugged in for a few hours and measure the voltage
across the battery.
If you want to change it just replace it with a compatible one as
outlined in the thread I linked to a few posts above.

I don't believe you will have any issues. But I'm not 100% sure.SuperPang wrote:Out of interest, if I slap a revised rom on there while the switch/freeze bug is there and possibly with a dead battery, would there be any problem?
