You know it's Shikigami 2.

Battle Garegga for freestyle. You can play it in so many different ways there's no bad way of playing the damn game.

I wouldn't play any if I only had one to choose from out of a huge list.

If there was only one shmup on the other hand and nothing else in the genre, I'd probably play it. Even if it was shit.

I'd bring Gradius III (SNES) and a Bullet Dodging 6 years old brain damaged/autistic girl.
Trek trough the Galaxy on silver wings and play football online.

I wonder if Lylat Wars counts as a shmup (referring to this thread)
When i play this game i think back to lots of good memories i share with it, so it'll be my first place.
Also it is lots of fun, i consider it anyway as one of the best games ever.

Vulgus because I progress in it, but I am still so far from perfecting it.

Gun Nac.

Not only is it one of the only shmups (that I know of..) that has giant killer bunnies, such a premise may make it one of the best games.. ever?

Dodonpachi Dai Ou Jou. Just because of all my favorite shooters, I think I'd get the most time out of this one =)

I feel it necessary to mention that it was a huge tossup between that and Mushihimesama. Mushi got consideration mainly because it has 3 modes, and is very nearly 3 games in one. Plus I'm a sucker for the soundtrack and the bug theme.

But DOJ still wins it =P For now.

Raiden [arcade].

However, i'm still exploring the vast array of shmups i missed out on in my 10 year hiatus. I'll almost certainly eventually find something i like better. So far though Raiden is still king, nostalgia is a powerful thing.

Im only sorta surprised by some of the choices as being # 1 for the Desert Isle scenario.
Some seem like a knee jerk, "obviously, only the best game ever made will do" kind of choice.

Would anyone care to give their 2nd choice too?
I think from what Ive read that the #2 choice may be more interesting than the #1 choice.
Like more thought would be needed to round out the #1 choice, ya know!?

My choice would be the choice of a noob without the experience to make a good choice. From what Ive read & seen & played so far Id have to choose Radiant Silvergun as #1 cuz I have no skills developed to be able to breeze thru it anytime soon.

But as #2 Id have to have something fun I think I could play like a Sexy Parodius or Cotton XXX or maybe Progear. I just played Progear for the 1st time last night & I think its way more do-able than my 1st choice.

For me theres just too much I dont know to know what to choose.

doodude, I think being stuck with the shmup you'd least want to be with on a desert isle would make for a much more interesting topic :lol:
Bioship Paladin anyone?

I will sneak "Battle Garrega" with me, but nobody has to know.
Is there a cab on that deserted island? Or else I will haul this baby with me:

I'd probably pick DDP DOJ or Ikaruga as they're both fun and would take a long time to master.

I'm suprised nobody has mentioned Armed Police Batrider yet, it's a game one could play for a very long time without exhausting all it's possibilities.

I choose Guwange.

1) Perfect Cherry Blossom — because its scoring has virtually no limits, and is for the most part based on experimentation and risk/reward (also because it's one of my favorite games ever);
2) Mushihime-sama Futari Black Label — to give myself "unlimited" challenge in Ultra mode;
3) Radiant Silvergun — complex scoring + high difficulty + interesting gameplay with vast replayability (you can impose different handicaps on yourself, such as using only a specific weapon, or killing enemies of only one color);
4) Battle Garegga — for a reason similar to Mushi Futari;
5) Darius Gaiden or G-Darius — lots of stages + ability to use it instead of an audio player.
