Chaos Field

Post by Super Laydock »

Please post scores in the new high score thread. Thanks!

Let's start off by saying I am starting to like this game A LOT, and besides DDPDOJ it is the only shmup I am playing right now when having time.

Unless and untill the old forum's high-score thread returns I'd like to make this the place for all Chaos field high-score postings.
You better show us all who's daddy! ;)

I just got this game the other day and the one thing I don't like about it is that it doesn't save scores. I had to write mine down and looking at it now... it doesn't look quite right to me. I'll have to try to duplicate it to make sure.

Acid King - 12.245.640 - 2 - Ifumi - 1122

Yeah, the lack of high-score saving is annoying. Doesn't take the fun of the game away though. Hopefully they'll add it for the Gamecube version.

Anyway: great score, especially if you only just started playing.

Not a bad run

Balzac - 19.370.360 - 2.2 - Ifumi - 1834

16.7 mil in stage 1 :P Had to sack two lives in order to keep the combo going throughout the stage though.
Good luck or cry.

Finally decided that I'm not selling this game after all. It's staying "in rotation" for quite a while yet :D

Full-chained Phase 1...didn't do as well as I wanted to. Ended up being so focused on Meta Cubes on 2.1 that I ended up making some very fucking stupid deaths. >_<

After I got Zero Gunner 2 earlier today and finished testing it out, I popped Chaos Field back in for the first time in awhile...and lo and behold, I improved my score:

BulletMagnet - 8,968,930 - 2.3 - Jinn - 892

Still haven't quite got the hang of the combo thing, but I'm getting better...part of the reason for the improvement is probably that I played on a different TV than usual: my normal one is offset to the right, so the combo counter was previous cut offscreen. Guess that helps a bit, heh.

More of the same. I think clearing Phase 2 in itself is impossible for me. >_<

@ Balzac and Skyline:

I find that very impressive scores when only reaching those phases...

Haven't played consoles for a week now (being ill and stuff...), but I must try and get at least near those scores since I can reach those phases...

I usually don't play manic shooter, but this one is really special. It has not left my DC for 2 days now.

Just registered and thought I´d share my Chaos Field hiscore, since it´s my favourite shmup at the moment :

Cabinet (CAB) - 0.048.999.380 - 4-1 - IFUMI - 2262 Hit

I should note I´m playing the GC version, but I think the DC version and
GC version´s Arcade Mode are nearly identical, so there shouldn´t be a problem...

I too am playing the GC version but one of this days I'm gonna download the DC version to see if there are many gameplay differences

The 3 latest scores, fresh from this morning :

CAB - 0040376940 - 3-2 - IFUMI - 2040 Hit
CAB - 0039371090 - 3-1 - IFUMI - 2339 Hit
CAB - 0031178810 - 2-2 - IFUMI - 2429 Hit

Finally managed to break the 30 million barrier in 2-1. But then I rejoiced instead of watching where I was going...

@ highlandcattle :

Well, as far as differences between GC and DC go... there´s the obvious lack of slowdowns (which makes the game a lot less impressive to play, imho), and then there are a few gfx glitches in the GC version, such as flickering textures and polygon overlaps. Sometimes the background "jumps" a little (best seen in 3-1 when the earth comes into view), I guess that´s a timing-related issue...

btw... Has anyone managed to keep their combo going in 2-2? Milestone say in the capture guide that it is possible, but I´ve never seen someone doing it.

Hey thanks for the reply,
but won't the slowdown make the DC version a lot easier?
Where can I find this capture guide your talking about?

The capture guide is on Milestone´s Chaos Field product page :
http://mile-stone.co.jp/product/chaosfield_top.html
It´s the 4 numbered links at the bottom of the page, and it´s Japanese only. They don´t give much useful advice anyway, but there are some pictures pointing out the enemies´ weak spots.

I can´t say much about the DC version being easier or not due to the slowdown; I´ve only played the GC version so far.

I thought I remember reading somewhere that the DC and GC versions had different bullet patterns. keeping the chain up might only be possible in the GC because in the DC rev, 2.2's boss goes out for lunch for too long for your chain to remain active.

Milestone wrote this guide for the Naomi Arcade version, so that must mean it´s possible to keep the chain going, even if it might take split-second timing...
The different bullet patterns appear only in the GC Original Mode, and it is indeed easier to keep up the combo, because as soon as the 2-2 boss goes off screen, some midsized enemy appears from the top of the screen and begins to fire some aimed spam at you.

OKAY. I fooled around with the 2-2 boss this evening, and lo, I found a trick that enabled me to keep my combo alive and kicking all through the phase (if I hadn´t died mere moments before 2-3 gave up it´s ghost)!
Since this is a hiscore thread, I will post my findings in the strategy forum.

Edit : Here´s my first score achieved with this "trick"; I dop'ed on 3-1.
