Blast Wind: Worth getting?

Post by evil_ash_xero »

I'm a Technosoft fan, and was thinking about getting this game. Is it worth buying?

Yes. However, note that it's pretty easy, and expensive.

Yeah, I just took a look on Ebay, and noticed it's 130 dollar asking price. Jesus.

HELLS YEAH.

I just bought one on Ebay recently for $32:

Ebay Item

It was for the disc only but well worth the price. Technosoft always delivers the goods.

Pretty blah vertical game with no TATE mode that is not worth what it sells for. I definitely would not recommend it unless you can find it really cheap.

Get it for around $60-$80, but use it more for a Music CD than a game.

It's not bad, but it's too easy. Even on Very Hard the game is not much of a challenge.

I would get Hyper Duel first before getting Blast Wind if I was you.

Only get Blast Wind if you really love Tecnosoft.

Wow. I just sold one (no spine) for $80. I think it's actually pretty good for a console-only game. The thing is, it's painfully easy. As for no TATE mode... well... that's just the way it's made. It's not an arcade port, although it mysteriously looks like one.

Thanks again for Blast Wind. ;)

I think Blast Wind was suppose to have an Arcade release. If you look at the credits it saids "Conversion."

The "Conversion" was done by four people if I remember correctly.

Most likely because Hyper Duel didn't do too good in the arcades Tecnosoft decided not to do a PCB release of Blast Wind.

I only paid the $90 because I'm a huge Tecno Soft fan. I just wanted to have the game for my library. If you just want to try it out, don't get your hopes up. It's an easy, short, and yet, pretty fun shmup, in my opinion. And the soundtrack is superb! But there are better Saturn shmups out there that aren't as expensive. If you have the money to burn, then go for it. And good luck. I haven't seen one for sale for a long time.

I just sold one (without spine card) for $60. I didn't bother checking market price, that's about what I paid for it. I'm so bad I never did 1CC it, and I guess I never will.

i payed 70.00 for it.. i'm a huge technosoft fan but this game is not one of their best.

it's not bad.... but not great either. i'd deffinately shell out the cash for hyper duel over this. it's really boring if you don't ramp up the difficulty. it's not worth the asking price right now IMO.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

hyper duel is a huge pain in the ass to find.

even worse, when you do find it, it usually goes for $130 or so.

don't know why I'm posting this.

guess I'm irritated I'll never play what many seem to consider TS's best.

I have reviews for Blast Wind and Hyper Duel in my sig (I think?)

Also, Blast Wind is, in all honesty, probably my favorite shmup. The music is second to none and its the game I play when I just want to chill and play through a shooter real quick.

Just thought I'd say that JPs reviews are what got me into Saturn shmupping and this site
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

I fail to see why a missing tate mode should be an issue here. The game was made just for Saturn, and is not an arcade port. It was never intended to be played on a vertical screen to begin with.

It's a vertical scrolling game with bars on each side, not a "vertizontal" one like Radiant Silvergun. Not having a TATE mode, thus, sucks. The fact it wasn't released as an arcade game is irrelevant - there were plenty of contemporaneous shooters on the Saturn with TATE modes.

You are mistaken, it is a "vertizontal" game, and the "bars" are for the score and stats. Just like Strikers 45+ and other games done in that style.

How many console-exclusive shooter that play on a vertical screen can you name? Right.

yeah, arguing about a game that was designed to be in yoko for not having tate is moot.

I somehow don't think moot was the word you were going for. Asinine maybe? Saying it's moot is giving that argument more credit than it deserves -_^

I was able to snag Hyper Duel. It was expensive! It's not their best. TF IV is their pinacle, I think.

Yeah, I don't like shooters that don't give me the option to use the full screen. Either give me a Tate mode, or make it a true full screen vertizontal like RSG, Gigawing, etc. If not, and my only option is to have big stupid bars (filled with the score, or wallpaper, or whatever) on each side of the screen, I think it sucks.

There once was a thread discussing the issue of whether there was ever a limited arcade release of this title. Everyone is talking here as though that issue was definitively resolved. Was it?
