back to the question in hand...
a lot of you are saying you wouldn't sell your ketsui but most of you guys are the richer collectors who buy a lot of boards..
a player like me has to save up for 3-4 months or so for a kit.. If i had a ketsui board and i'd already played it for a year or 2 and was fed up of it then i would sell it and buy muchi muchi pork or summat else..
thats without it being emulated.. if it was emulated i would feel less pain from having to sell
so dont try and make out your so "hardcore" cos you wont sell your just better off than most and can afford to have a few high end boards !

Like you, I only get a PCB every 3 - 4 months and I buy the older ones that have done the rounds (ie I just bought Ibara and Progear most recently). I'm a console gamer who dabbles in the world of PCBs because I love them.charlie chong wrote:back to the question in hand...

However, emulation wouldn't make me sell a board (unless of course I needed to make the rent of feed my self to stay alive!). I'd just sell a PCB if I didn't like the game. So I guess our stance is fairly similar. I'm just a little to afraid to sell a PCB I still like but don't play just in case I fancy making a return one day.
As you say, being 'hardcore' isn't about having money, but also having money doesn't stop you being hardcore. Money doesn't have a bearing. Passion and enthusiasm do. I'd love to have the money to buy new Cave PCBs and cabs and the whole works, and hopefully one day I will have that personal arcade in the basement, so I think it a little unfair to criticise those who do, who have likely worked hard to get it.
And furthermore, I don't think their wallet has an impact on their view of emulation and a dumped game. Sure it makes it easier to stick to PCBs, but even if you have the cash, if there's a cheaper option they liked surely they'd still go for it. I'm sure a lot of our MAME users here have healthy wallets too!

no hate towards the big collectors..anyone is welcome to spend their hard earned money on whatever they like.but it's a fact that the poorer members may have to sell pcbs just to live due to unforseen circumstance/chaotic lifestyle etc and it has nothing to do with their love for the game.. and like i say a mame rom would definitely make me more willing to sell.
mebbes im just mental for being poor and buying arcade cabs and pcbs but i can't help it i'm just a shooter addict!! it's not the other collectors fault that i dont make enough money from my shit job but also they shouldn't judge others pcb buying/selling habits when they have pockets lined with gold

I know how you feel! I often question my shmup buying habit when I think of my crappy earnings, and it does make me question how materialistic I am, which then makes me worry about how that sits with the fact that I would bitch about people collecting for the sake of owning a game they would never unwrap, just through greed. I find it very hard not to empty the bank balance for 'just one more shmup'.charlie chong wrote:no hate towards the big collectors..anyone is welcome to spend their hard earned money on whatever they like.but it's a fact that the poorer members may have to sell pcbs just to live due to unforseen circumstance/chaotic lifestyle etc and it has nothing to do with their love for the game.. and like i say a mame rom would definitely make me more willing to sell.

And you're right about richer owners judging those who use Mame etc. While I understand not using it as I don't, people who can afford PCBs should bare in mind many emulation users do so because f making the rent. (And yes fellow forum users. I'm sure many of you do!)

Sorry to bring this topic back up, but it’s where I found out about being able to advance one frame at a time in Mame to look for lag inherent to it.
So, using that pause frame advance thing on Wolfmameplus 99.
On the Guwange button test screen I have to advance three frames before a button is shown as pressed, in game the player character takes the same amount to move.
Air Gallet’s button test needs one frame advancement, and in game the player ship takes two frames.
Gunbird 2 takes three frames on the button test screen, and two frames to move the player character.
Armed Police Batrider has no button test option so I used the Object Test screen instead, which requires one frame before a button is registered. In game the player ship takes four frames to show movement.
Surely that means using this method to check for lag is useless?
Also I have the PCB of Armed Police Batrider, and the Mame version to me is unplayable due to lag, but Guwange with apparently one frame difference seems perfectly playable.
