This picture was found in an eBay auction for "The Ultimate PC Engine Collection" (ie. cd with emu + romz) but I don't recognize the game. Which is odd, since I've thought of myself as something of a PCE connoisseur. So this bothers me, especially since the game looks like the cousin of Capcom's Jetpack-trilogy, which I adore. Help me out here.

Maybe it's not a PCE game at all...

psikyo font on the score and powerbar in the lower left and the bullets look like psikyo aswell make me think of somekind of korean arcade hack?

Horizontal oriontation, so it's most likely a console game.
That does look like a final boss. Could this be some home made game?

I think that from the looks of the ship / mech it is Macross 2036 too.

Everybody's "guessed" it right already. I'd assume that most folks who haven't played Macross 2036 think it's a completely horiz shooter, and while that's true, you're forced into valkyrie mode with movement-based variable aiming/rotation during most boss battles. The last boss is depicted in the screenshot as Jon mentioned and is a valkyrie mode battle.

I think it's a great shooter for Macross fans, although less so than Scrambled Valkyrie.

Heh. I always felt the exact opposite thinking that 2036 was slightly better. Both are excellent in their own right though.
