Bangai-o on Dreamcast.

Post by petrolhead »

So, how good is it?
This game always seems to get named when a chat about DC shmups is in progress.

Anyway, i picked up a brand new PAL copy this afternoon and i'm gonna have a go latter on.(£5)

Any tips?

Rather wacky artwork dialogue/humour and of course the bosses  , check out the sounds inthe options menu

I just wish the sprites were just abit bigger

I picked up my copy for £10 at my local indie ganeshop

I dont think Bangi-o goes for alot, mind I could be wrong

Wasn't this lost in the US port?
Also I've read the PAL release has the better translation of the strange ingame conversations... :?

I have the PAL release, and the translation is rather good, but I've never played the US release to compare.

strangely, being in the us, i have only played the pal version too. fireworks was refering to in-game comboing, but i am sure, on some level, that was understood.

So it's not just hyped up because it's a Dreamcast shooter?
It is a good game?

What about the 'mind and skill' levels?
What's all that about?

Is it VGA compatable?
Does'nt say so on the box.

Well, it's very puzzle based on later levels and it is a bit of an aquired taste with it's strange game mechanics.

Definitely worth playing tho, cause it's pretty cheap and very strange.

This game is far from crap.

The gameplay is wildly fun (make sure you're using the 4-button control scheme). You will be laughing like a maniac when you unleash 400 bouncy lasers on the hapless space colony citizens.

Unfortunately it's not VGA compatible.

Bangai-oH is truely forgetable on any platform if you ask me. Yea, I have it...yea I've played it...Yea,I find it to be rather blah...blah! I may have my own unique view on "Banger Oh", so here goes... it reminds me of BoulderDash meets a simplified/stripped down Cybernator.

Then again, I don't consider Radiant Silverspoon to be the second coming either.

"Strange" will be pretty much self-esxplainable when you first play the game! ;)

As for "acquired taste": that goes litterally for every game in existence...

I bet in about 2 hours you'll be back again raving about the game...

(that is if you're remotely like me...) :D

I have Bakuretsu Muteki Bangaioh on N64, I haven't played it in years, but I might give it some time again when I connect my N64.

I really liked it, it's Treasure after all :)

Besides, I was looking for Sin and Punishment anyway...

Bangai-O is one of the must fun expiriences I've had with a console, alltough it might not be up to everybody's tastes.
You must try it out tough if you own a n64 and/or a dreamcast and you can sell it at the same price you bought it if it's not up your alley.

Easily one of Treasure's best games and a Dreamcast must-own. Getting your mech into trouble in order to unleash insane missile combos = manic replay value.

Wait till you set off a "400 max" swarm of missles for the first time, talk about a rush.

Well, i've had a go.

What a load of rubbish, hated it, polished the box already and putting it on Ebay.
What a disappointment.

Oh well, loaded up RE Code Veronica instead.

Anyone who says that this game is fantastic must be wearing rose tinted glass's, because it's not a classic.

Think i'll have a quick blast at Psyvariar on PS2 instead, now thats a proper game.

A great game is exellent from the start, you don't have to wait hours for it to suddenly be great.

Were not talking about strategy or rpg's , are we, were talking shmup's.

SORRY if you love this game but...it's not for me.

It'll sell on E Bay no problem,it's new, as long as i get my money back for it,i'm happy.
The money for it can go towards Ikaruga on GC or DC.

Hey petrol, not to try and overwhelm you with opinions, but how far have you gotten in the game? You might want to just give it a little more time, the earlier levels are kind of to just cut your teeth on. Like I said, once you start unleashin massive combos in impossible- to-survive situations, you might like it.

Anyways, yeah if it's not your cup of tea and you want a "true" shmup to put your money towards, Ikaruga is awesome.

how can anyone hate a game where bosses comunicate with squigly drawings?

Its not a shmup imo, reminds of subterania on the genesis.

Certainly'' very weird and different'' not crap though, more of a puzzle game with some genuinely hard bosses, last one is a byatch.

The PAL version has a different translation of some text, most noticeably the intro.. no idea which is closer to the Japanese though.
