Does Psyvariar 2 make anyone else want to kill themselves?
I dunno, I licked the 1st Psyvariar no problems, but this one is making me tear my hair out. It's just so damn hard to get the levels you need to have a decent play. I feel useless ranking through to all the baby stages.

It's all about keeping an eye on that shield that gives you a burst of invincibility. As you Buzz, you fill your 'Nuetrino' gauge. Every time that fills you briefly get a feint purple shield of invincinility, and here the words 'level up', before the field fades away. Also, when you have the shield you can 'ram' enemies.
Don't shoot enemies much, let the screen fill with bullets, buzz like crazy and you can chain shields (so you just hear 'level up''level up''level up''level up''level up') and basically you're invincible, and then just sweep round ramming enemies. Also, as they explode they often release bullets from the point of ramming, giving you even more buzz.
And use a stick to do rolling shots, not the button, You can move far faster and more delicately this way, and buzz more as you jitter about.

That's the best of Saur's videos for demonstrating technique...
It feels a little different from the previous Psyvariar, which had far less emphasis on ramming, but once you get it it's incredible

I actually found it pretty easy. In most of the levels, the dodging isn't difficult at all, except perhaps for the bosses. In stage 3, however, you can basically go through to the boss with little danger by rushing and ramming most of the enemies with a massive shield chain. The bosses are also fairly easy, for the most part.
I don't play it much at all but 1cc'ing it on normal difficulty wasn't much of a problem for me. You just have to be aggressive with shield ramming.

The closest i've yet come to playing a Psyvariar is rRootage PSY mode (laugh), but i really love the concept. There needs to be more such subtle innovation in gaming. I want gaming to have an explosion of subgenres the way music has since the 'net. Obviously each esoteric genre won't be for everyone, but by finding their specific subgenre each person finds greater bliss than ever.

I understand the concept of the buzzing, I fell in love with the first game (awesome soundtrack) and could get to the harder route on that.
With 2, I just can't seem to get to grips with what to shoot, what not to shoot, and how long that shield is going to last before I end up accidentally ramming something and blowing up.
It just seems to escape me. Guess I just need more practice.
Anyone know what level I should be aiming at at the end of stage one?

Uber-Psyvariar player Saurian comments a bit on it, among other things, in this thread.

With regards to what to shoot and what not to shoot, a good rule of thumb for learning it all yourself is 'don't shoot anything until the last moment you can'. There's exceptions to that rule, but it's good fun to learn on your own.
And just rely on ramming as much as shooting...
