I've changed my mind: a DVD is better than a CD. The music to Ketsui is one of the best in any shooters, but it doesn't reward isolated listening in the same manner of Battle Garrega, Mars Matrix or Recca.
If Mihara almost had the video ready for the December Cave fest, then surely it shouldn't be too long until it gets posted? Excitement!
Also, thanks EOJ for starting such a comprehensive splinter forum

A superplay is nice and all but what I really want to know is if its just going to be a "boss rush" or more. I'll buy/support either way but still
link below gets my hopes up but the link in there is broken

Obviously nothing is certain at this point, but the video clearly shows an approximation of the middle part of stage 3, including unlocking the 1st hidden extend. Weather this makes it into the final build is anyones guess but it looks hopeful that there will be at least short preambles leading to the bosses.moonblood wrote:A superplay is nice and all but what I really want to know is if its just going to be a "boss rush" or more. I already have a Ketsui replay DVD (that came with a CD). How about including a fucking playable demo of the aborted PS2 port?EOJ wrote:He says Arika will be including a Ketsui (arcade) superplay DVD with Ketsui DS. Apparently there was a survey of what gamers wanted the most, and the Ketsui DVD was #1 (a soundtrack CD was #2), due to it being sold out and very expensive these days. So Mihara is getting SPS to print up the DVD and will package it with Ketsui DS as a freebie.

this DS port of is so dumb..... lord forbid we have a PS2 port with some extra slow down that wasn't in the arcade ect. but wait it's totally cool to butcher it up and completely fuck-tard it up on a portable?
i'd be ok with the ds version if the ps2 port wasn't canned.

Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

This is half of why I'm looking forward to this game so much! The other half is that it'll be a quality shooter on the DS and the DS is fun.![]()
Or how about that you're getting something instead of nothing? And it'll come with all most people need anyways, a superplay DVD.i'd be ok with the ds version if the ps2 port wasn't canned.
And it's something at least somewhat new as well. I'm sure we'll all get to play the original Ketsui in MAME someday.

I don't want a fucking super play dvd, superplay dvds can rot in hell for all I care.... I want to PLAY it, not be teased by a video of someone else doing it. DS is better than nothing but KNOWING that there is an almost complete port with just some extra slowdown as the only real flaw.... ugh all that work for nothing, why?Or how about that you're getting something instead of nothing? And it'll come with all most people need anyways, a superplay DVD.

I don't think anyone who would buy this game without all ready being a fan of shooters to start with would really be persuaded by extra crap. If they know nothing of the genre then I doubt a challenge mode or superplay dvd would mean a single thing to them.Mihara has said that they could release a barebones emulated Ketsui with no extras on the PS2, but it isn't commercially viable.
I can see some random japanese person picking it up now, "oh whats this game? It seems to be some kind of game with helicopters in it and shooting.... oh wait!! It's just a bare bones port with no extras at all... GOD I mean everyone who is ANYONE knows that this was an arcade game and the fact that it doesn't say it has EXTRA challenges and a superplay DVD is just so LAME. No thanks....."
they could have released esp galuda and dodonpachi DOJ with nothing but a bare bones port and i bet everyone who owns it now would still own it and praise about how awsome the ports were. the extra shit is nice but I hardly ever use them except for the 1st look over.

Ketsui DS is a NEW GAME, and thus is inherently more exciting than a straight port of Ketsui. Ketsui DS is not Ketsui. It has nothing to do with the canned PS2 version. I wish people would realise this already
Sure a port would be great, but if I really wanted Ketsui that much, I would just pay the £500 for the bare board. It's not that much more expensive than a PS3, and holds its value pretty well. But a brand new Ketsui game? Wins every time.

yeah.... just rather shell out standard game price for a port... plus my ps3 plays more than one game and blu-ray.£500 for the bare board
i'll get the ds game but it's not ideal for me.

Is the dumping/emulation of Ketsui drawing near ?
seems risky to buy a game for over thousand dollars if it can be freely played in MAME, even if it might take a year or 2 more before its possible..
Haze wrote:it's pgm based. it uses a protection device, with no external rom, and thus pretty much no chance of it being trojaned (for proper emulation of the protection device, not simulation). Also the later pgm caves have execute only internal roms, so even if you do manage to get code running on them you *can't* dump them.
IOW, don't expect it running in MAME anytime soon. It might just require a decap, but as we don't even know if those things are mask / eeprom (I suspect eeprom, and custom part so we can't read them even if we erase protect bits) not even that is really an option.
so yeah, it looks nice.. cave shooters always do, but properly emulated, soon, No.
LOL.

BTW, what is this worth? I heard it's rare or something?

I haven't played it but often have to wonder what the fuss is over..... like sapphire, it ain't 600.00 dollar good. it's not even 80.00 good. I own it but I payed regular price.
I'm sure it awsome like all cave stuff, but I'm still skeptical. Most that have played it have shelled out big bucks on it.... I doubt they would be so eager to say it's your average cave shooter..... I dunno either way never played it
