Good import, non-shmup DC games??...
I know about REZ, which I intend to get, but what else is out there in the realm of non-shmup DC imports? Are there any platformers, scrolling fighters; etc?

Might want to poke around here if you haven't already though it isn't limited to imports (or even non-shmups):

Cool Cool Toon. if anyone hates this game, then it wasn't meant for them (i am pulling a Kevin Smith). art fantastic. music fantastic. play hard as all hell, but still fantastic. if you are ever pissed, CCT will cure what ails you (or aggravate the problem, depending which level you play).
I have no sig whatsoever.

Plat formers and fighting side scrollers?
Well you know about beats of rage? from team senile, they made a homage a year or 2 back, think they are working on a new direct streets of rage engine copy with running, and the switch over the top to throw or backdrop techs missing from the first one, also someguy is trying to port alien versus predator the arcade game to dreamcast so sidescroller wise its happening on line, i have cadillacs and dinosaurs on a rom that plays on my DC.
platformers? theres frogger 2, fur fighters, sword of berserk guts rage record of lodoss war thats all good, but not really any 2D style .super magnetic neo is a platformer for sure.
Import wise? virtual on is pretty kick ass, frame gride also.

Haha, seems like there's another guy here who read that GamePro article.Ganelon wrote:Ya know, Oratorio Tangram was released in the US.
To be honest I can't think of too many worthwhile imports that aren't shmups and don't have much text; the El Dorado series interests me. Ganelon, have you ever played those?

LamePro listed VOOT under their "Top ten coolest games never released in the US." in their most recent issue. I'm sure they must have gotten quite a lot of flak as of this moment.Ganelon wrote:Hmm? No clue what GamePro article you might be referring to.
And sadly, no, never tried the Eldorado Gate series. I took one look at the ugly-ass 3D visuals and decided not to go for it. Gaijin Punch was selling all 7 volumes together at one point; he can probably tell you something about it.
And VOOT is perfectly playable and enjoyable with a pad. In fact, I get my ass handed back to me by the computer when playing with the Twinsticks that Beatifik sold me.
Don't hold grudges. GET EVEN.

I play worlds better with the controller myself...

Yup, I've got it.dave4shmups wrote:Has anyone got Baldr Force EXE? That looks pretty shooty!
Not worth buying if you're not capable reading Japanese!

that sums it up pretty well!I heard it was very "story heavy", in that you will wind up pushing A to skip through dialogue that you can't understand (unless you know Nihongo), and thus is fairly tedious.

I've finished one of the story branches with lots of skipping and just pushing some buttons in the action parts and I've left it alone ever since.
Beats of Rage comes recommended indeed (especially since it's free), Great Giana Sisters (homebrew, but excellent 2d platformer), Alice Dreams (see GG sisters comment).
