Progear and Arcade Heaven Supergun - which encoder?
Progear and Arcade Heaven Supergun - which encoder?
Hello,
I've got an Arcade Heaven supergun and it won't play my Progear CPS2 Japanese A + B, despite everything being in working order.
I've heard it might be the encoder. Does anybody know the encoder the Arcade Heaven uses? I'm pretty sure it is identical to the Raven Games (London) Supergun.
Once I know the encoder I can dig deeper!
Cheers

Also - I'm having trouble with the kick harness that came with my supergun in that it doesn't fit the CPS2 A board. The white plastic block on the harness that goes into the A board is too small to go into the female connecter on the CPS2.
Do I even need the harness when Progear isn't six button? Or rather, would I still get Progear on my screen even though the harness isn't in place?
Oh, and I'm running the SG into my TV with Scart. Other JAMMA games work fine with the set-up...

Yes - colour on the screen, which I can of course change with the RGB controls on the SG.
Thing is - when I just plug in the A board on it's own I get the same screen. Just one plain colour.
And the fan definitely works. Very powerful and noisy!
I bought Progear from a well respected seller who I and many others trust, so I'm sure it works. The supergun also works fine with other JAMMA boards. Ibara's running now. Fresh battery in the CPS2 too.
I admit I'm a newbie to PCBs, so the test/service/select buttons on the SG confuse me.
Does CPS2 need to warm up?

You're in UK, you don't need any video encoder in your supergun. Here in north America we need video encoders because our TV don't take RGB. The encoders change the RGB signal to composite/S-video/Component which can cause some issue with a few PCBs/Mobos. In Europe, your TV accept low rez RGB via scart 21 pin without any problems so the problem isn't your supergun as far as you use the rgb out.
It's either a problem with the power supply or a problem with the CPS2 mobo (probably a cold joint or a broken pin) Remove your B board and plug it back properly to the A board, if it still don't work, try to twist the mobo a bit.

Thanks Alien Soldier. Very helpful. So plugging the SG into the TV with SCART isn't the issue?Alien Soldier wrote:You're in UK, you don't need any video encoder in your supergun. The SG is UK made so I assume there's no issue with the encoder. I've tried the separate and put back together approach and no joy. What do you mean by 'twist' the motherboard? And what does 'cold' mean?
As you seam knowledgeable in this field could you confirm - Even without a kick harness I should still get something on screen from the game yes?
Thanks again...

You don't need any kick harness to get something on the screen, even from the Street Fighter boards and as SuperPang said you don't need it with Progear anyways, this game don't use the 6 buttons configuration.spadgy wrote:Thanks Alien Soldier. Well, a cold joint is a "broken" solder. If you twist the board with both of your hands that can make the joint to get in contact again and you'll get something on the screen. Open the A board and check if there is something suspicious, check for cold joint or broken pins.
Btw, did you get the A board from the same guy ?
Sorry Superpang. Somehow missed your power question. The power supply is built into the supergun. It's for a UK power supply so it's 240v. Not sure about the ampage.SuperPang wrote:You have a CPS1 harness, you don't need it for Progear anyway (no kick button)
Assuming the power supply is external, how many Amps?
But what's this? Just this moment spotted the possible problem! One of the pins in one of the four open female connecters in the mobo is looking the tiniest part bent - something I'm likely to have done when I separated the A+B for the first time....
Guessing that might be it...
