Super Contra problems/issues

Post by caldwert »

So I've had this Super Contra PCB for quite a while now and it worked fine and then suddenly quit working right. Half the time it works fine the other half it displays all sorts of jibberish. The problem seems to be when it goes to do the ROM check and it goes haywire. However when it does successfully complete the ROM check all of them come up ok. I remember a long time ago the long black thing right behind the Jamma edge got bent or cracked a bit. I'm not sure exactly what purpose this item serves. Here is a picture of what I'm referring to: http://www.system16.com/hardware.php?id=566 . Basically I'm wondering if anyone else has any clue how to get this board to work properly or what the problem might be. If its busted, then can I take the ROMs and place them on a Crime Fighters board or something similar? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

Hi there, sorry for my bad englisch;
I have a contra board (first model not super) and i get exactly the same error when the +/- 5 Volt are not regulated correctly.

If its too high; the white letters in the game are a little red/pink.
If its too low; the game does not boot or boots much longer.

I hope to get my super contra pcb today so i can check if thats the same there.
If the PCB still boots, you dònt have to worry too much about it.

Hi there

well if the ROMs are compatible (same manufacturer and model ID) then yes
You may have to reflash them with the correct game roms.

If you are ever interested in the first contra I have it here for sale

http://arcadeboards.exterior-coatings.c ... oductId=12

It works perfectly and a worthy game for any PCB collection.

Any clue how to fix the +/- 5v? I really have no clue what happened to this board. Worked fine one day then went totally crazy since and either is all sorts of weird errors or works perfectly.

*lol* i have no idea what sort of cab you use....
And i have just three German wood cabs :)
They are completely different from the machines u use ^-^

But if you can say me which cabinet you own, i can ask a few people in our arcade forums.
Normally, the 5 V +/- regulation works over a single switch

I'm using an Astro City cabinet. So you think it is my cabinet that is the problem? I haven't had any other games have issues and this has happened on both Astro City's I've owned over the past 5 years.

dam !
My Super Contra arrived yesterday and all works fine...
But it seems to have some problems with the graphics (blue lines etc...)
Sprites are perfect but sometimes they have a strange blue back round / lines

:(

@caldwert
no, i think the PCB its the problem...
Seems that i have the same problem now :(
