So I sent the head woof at Mastiff an e-mail

Commence e-mail:

Hey, just wanted to show my support to one of my favorite publisher studio's out there. You guys are doing a fantastic job; I was incredibly elated to that not only did you guys release Gungrave: OD, but did a fantastic voice job with it as well.

Currently, I'm playing La Pucelle and love the voice acting and translation. This stuff is on the level of Working Designs!

You guys are amazing; there are hundreds of others out there like me that appreciate all you people have done for gamers like us. Many of us are extremely happy to see you guys bringing over the niche games to the US market.

After Pump it Up, what other games have you considered bringing stateside? Just a suggestion, but I know a ton of guys who'd like to see some shmups come here, like some of Cave's work (DoDonPachi Dai-Ou-Jou, ESPgaluda, etc.) on PS2. Just so you know, there are quite many shmup-o's and hardcore gamers out there who love what you guys are doing .

Peace out, and good fortune to you.

-Sage

I sent that out a few days ago, and today I received his reply:

Thanks for the encouragment. We appreciate it.

I'd love to do the Cave stuff but I'm afraid the straight shooter market really makes it hard. Sad but true.

However, if you come across games you like, you think would be good, or have ideas/comments on our products feel free to drop me an email.

Best
Bill

His e-mail address is bswartz@@mastiff-games.com (minus the extra @), so if you have any suggestions or games you want to come over, let him know. Nonchalantly mention that ya'll like Cave games too and would buy them on the spot or something ;)

My copy of GG: Overdose still sits in its shrinkwrap waiting to be played but after completing La Pucelle awhile back I too sent them an email just to say thanks. I don't think I ever got a response but maybe I will send another echoing your sentiments. Couldn't hurt!

Swap Magics are $30...much easier than whining to a lot of random publishers

Seriously, importing's easy.

That's cool you got a reply, at least he took time to read it and give you an honest response. Nice work.

I'd rather they never came out in the US. They'd have tate removed or something stupid.

Ehh, like Neon said, begging for shooter ports doesn't make much sense since it's easy to import and the language barrier is non-existent. Plus, companies aren't going to do it because it isn't profitable. If you want companies to bring games over, ask for ones that make sense like Ys I&II, 3 and Zwei!!. But Mastiff really isn't the company to do any quality projects anyway, IMO Atlus is the only hardcore publisher left.

Damn NEC for not going along with a budget Ys I&II Eternal Story when they were still around. Or damn SCEA for not letting them release the game for full price in the US.

Bah! Growlanser Generations Deluxe Pack, foo'. Nuff said.

Mastiff's really kickass; not only have they released quality titles that prolly would not have made it here (Sega was not going to publisher Gungrave: OD for stateside release), but they're budget friendly, too. I wasn't as much whining to them as just giving them suggestions and seeing what they'd think about it; I always like supporting companies, in the past I've written letters to Namco (Hometek, but meh.., still Namco) and Sega and have received responses.

Speaking of strat-RPGs, hey Jon! Are you getting Atelier Iris? Have you got Digital Devil Saga yet?

Don't get me started on WD, they're a joke of a company.

I've yet to see anything worthwhile that Mastiff has brought over. La Pucelle was owned by Disgaea and Phantom Brave, Gungrave OD was as boring and uglier than the first, and anything else they brought over I probably didn't care to play. I'd like for them to succeed, but they haven't proved to me they are much better than an Xs games.

Yes my interest for Atelier Iris is growing by the day. Great looking 2D sprite orgy from the screen shots I have seen. Funny you mention DDS. Just last night I finished the second to last dungeon and am ready to tackle the side quests before the grand finale. I like the game.. alot, but it's no Nocturne. It really does feel like Shin Megami Tensei for the mainstream. It's still harder than the average RPG but thats just a testament to how easy they have become these days. The biggest bummer is that Iam ready to enter the games final area and my playtime has just barely broken the 25 hour mark! Granted I havent done any optional bits yet but I also take my sweet time with games like this. I really think this game and its upcoming sequel would have made one juggernaught of a single game.

Don't get me wrong though. The game is still pretty damn cool. As always with the Megaten games the story is just as cool and out there if not more so than Nocturne and the character designs kick ass. Great stuff all around its just that after Nocturne (my favorite RPG on the PS2) my expectations were a little to high I guess.
