Wii Virtual Console

Post by EvolTurdGun »

As most of you are probably aware of, there are quite a few shmups on the Wii vc now. I have been playing quite a few games on MAME this past week and I am really enjoying playing Donpachi, Battle Bakraid etc. What are the chances of the mentioned games (and others like them) coming to the vc?

Also, there are many dreamcast shmups that I want to play but that would reqiure buying an import DC and games (this I do not intend to/can't afford to do). Would you guys say it is likely that dreamcast games and sega saturn games will be available on the VC down the road???

I don't mind MAME but I would rather "own" a game properly and play it on my tv.

p.s Psyvariar: complete edition, R-type final for ps2 and Iridion II for GBA - are these games any good/worth buying in any bodies opinion?

Any insight much appreciated.

R-Type Final is kinda meh... but if you can get it cheap (and you should), it may be a good buy.

Psyvariar Complete Edition is good, but you should try to get Psyvariar 2, which is an incredibly superior game.

And if you don't already have it, get Gradius V... best shmup on PS2.

It doesn't look like and arcade or Saturn games will be released for the VC, so the chances are pretty bad. As in there's no chance at all. Sorry.

I have a bit of press contact with the Nintendo lot in the UK, and they've got nothing to say on Saturn ports to VC - BUT - they said that about NeoGeo ages ago and they're appearing on the service

Damn right - I love Psyvariar Complete as Revision on that comp is ace, but you're so much better getting the sequel, not using auto roll, and learning to 'ram' and all that stuff. Psyvariar 2 at first glance is a rather ordinary shooter, but learn it's secrets and it's a fantastically addictive and deep game.

Iridion II was pretty good. It's release price was $20, so I bet you can pretty much get it cheaper now.

I think I will buy Psyvariar complete edition (seen it for £7.99 brand new).

Was there a PAL release for Psyvariar 2? Can't find it anywhere.

Gutting. It would have made life a lot more easy.

Would you all recommend the likes of Soldier Blade, Gates of Thunder and Blazing Lasers? I am very tempted to buy them for my brothers Wii.

I have soldier blade and blazing lazers and love them. I definitely recommend those. I'd also recommend Gradius 3 for the SNES; it's fun although a bit easy.

From what I remember when i was hunting down a copy the answer is no.

I opted for the NTSC-J DC version for my PAL DC, and use a boot disc.

There's a rumor being tossed around that says Nintendo is going to offer 2 more virtual consoles. Link. I'm hoping on the MSX & Saturn. But it'll probably end up being the SMS & GB.

I'd rather see them dig deeper in the NES and SNES catalog...

Got soldier Blade today, what a game. I only got to play it for an hour or so but I got to the end of the 3rd stage without dying (i'm a bit of a noob so that's good for me). Love the weapon system and how the upgrades act as hitpoints. Way more forgiving than R-type - can't get past the 2nd stage on that game.

I thought Donpachi was easy until I got to the 3rd stage, so Im not expecting to breeze through Soldier Blade (no continue) without some time and dedication.
