Karous, Radirgy and Chaos Field for Wii announced(on 1 disc)

Post by zubiac »

Milestone announces that their shooter "Karous"(released on Dreamcast before) heads to Nintendo Wii. Relasedate: March 27 2008 (in Japan).

As a bonus(wtf?) the disc will also contain the full version of the shoot em ups "Radirgy" and "Chaos Field".

Wasn't sure about making a new topic for this, so I posted this here.
Of course, that's just an opinion.

Better three games that aren't very good on one disc than one game that isn't very good on three discs, I suppose.

I don't think they're terrible, and it's good to see the Wii get a retail shmup. Shows theirs some faith in the genre from the mainstream publishers.

(If it gets a limited release, I take that all back!)

And will an American game publisher pick up the exclusive rights to distribute this cool threesome shmup collection for the U.S. region Wii gamers?

Best to include support for the optional Gamecube arcade joystick as well while bringing it stateside... ^_~

O3? Don K?
What is the good word? Can we get Milestone shooting pack here in the USA? Wii is doing far better than the GCN at retail. Make it happen! Put me down for this collection when it is release in the USA!

If O3 does get the exclusive rights to distribute this Milestone shmup pack, then they better say what they're gonna do and not pulling another promised but cancelled Radio Allergy GCN fucked-up con job...dissappoint the USA shmup fans and they'll turn else where for their shmup needs like buying imports or console modding to play them.

Nintendowiifanboy is reporting that the game will be localized unless I'm reading the article wrong. Can anyone confirm or deny this for the US market?

Radirgy ain't half bad from what I've seen and neither does Karous. Chaos Field is a little meh though. I hope O3 can release this.

I don't have anything official on this, but it'd make sense, considering that CF was already released here, and Radirgy was thisclose to making it, so the work on it is already done...wasn't there a thread recently regarding some translation that'd already been done on Karous, as well?

In any event, I'm one of those who rather likes Milestone's stuff (Radirgy snuck into my top 25 this past year), so I'm glad to see this announced, though I already own the games on DC - too bad they probably won't be received very well if they do make it here, though.

Not the best shooters, but still worth the money for collection. I already have them on DC, but wouldn't mind getting the collection again. Hopefully the Classic and/or Cube pads will be supported. I hate this Wiimote crappy controls.

I definately think they will, considering Castle of Shikigami is getting similar treatment.

I'm confused by your statement--you mean that Shikigami will allow use of the classic controller?

I certainly hope so. As far as controllers go, the classic controller is the best one I've seen for ANY system for a while (although I do think the psx is a good controller and the only decent one to fill in the void since the Saturn.)

Yes, Castle of Shikigami III will support Classic and Gamecube controllers.

Yeah Shikigami 3 supports various control methods, including Cube and Classic Pad support. However I prefer the 360 version, which has slightly better graphics and imo the 360 is still better than any of the Wii controls.

I dunno. I still have my SNES Cube Hori pad, so any game which supports the pad in the GC Controller option should be okay.

Same dillema here. The DS looks more inviting right now. But this along with Shikigami is making me think twice.

The D-pad on the Classic Controller is superior to the Hori digital GameCube pad.

Although if you really insist on skinning your thumb, I think Hori will release a SFC-styled Classic Controller.

The only advantage of using the Hori pad is that you will not run out of batteries.

Back on topic: I never got into Radirgy and I never bought Karous on Dreamcast. I'll check out the price on this and think about it.

The Wii is quickly becoming the new mainstream console. Amazon.com reported that they sold 17 Wii's a second last month. Link. That's blows the PS2's records out of the water. Which will mean that everything is going to be put on the Wii at some point in the future.

So... yeah. I think that it's safe to say, "Go ahead and get one." My only question would be: Import or domestic?

also let's do not forget that there are a lot of shmups available to download for the Virtual console service.
I have all my older consoles in my gaming room in the basement as I only have room for one console in my living room. So i love the wii's virtual console stuff. I downloaded every shmup so far. R-Type 3 and Gate of thunder are my favs so far.

I am not much of a Wii fan, imo the whole Wiimote idea is a big failure... but well for Nintendo it seems to sell. ;)

Good thing is the Wii isn't that expensive (that's if you can find one for a normal street price heh), so apart from the few shooters available now there should still be some good games coming.

The 360 isn't a bad choice either with games like Shikigami 3, Senko no Ronde, the upcoming Raiden compilation and some upcoming Xbox Live games like Ikaruga.

With Wii's VC options and coming Milestone stuff and the likes, it's certainly worth getting for shmups as new-gen consoles go. However, those staggering sales mentioned above in comparison to the PS2 at the same time only really show Nintendo's marketing skill and the Wii's success as a manistream/casual machine. It's selling to whole new groups of people who would never have normally bought a console, who'll likely be playing crappy family quiz games and throwaway minigame compilations. So don't let the hype and sales let you think it's the new PS2. Sure it's the new mainstream machine, but it's not necerserily the for the same audience/consumer as the PS2.

However, for me Super Mario Galaxy, Zelda, Excite Truck etc. added to the VC shmup list make it worth every penny dozens of times over.

Despite it's slow start and problems, I'm still tempted to put money on the PS3 eventually emerging victorious. Maybe... though for shmups... not so sure.

I got Chaos Field Expanded and I was very disappointed; I ended up not keeping it. As for the other two, the titles dumb as hell and I just couldn't get into them. I really don't like Milestone at all.

But for those of you who do, it seems like you have a lot to look forward to! One thing they are good at is fan service (as can be seen with this recent "threesome" disc). I know I'd be really happy, too, if Psikyo did something like this in their collection series (especially Strikers 1999)...
