just got steel dragon ex (pal)
...for the ps2.
not going to touch my current faves i don't think but seems ok. the original steel dragon on there seems good quality and a decent level of difficulty for me, someone fairly new to the genre. got pasted a bit on the third stage and i'm still trying to figure out the weapon symbols and their significance (damn rubbish instructions grr)
however on my first playthrough of steel dragon evo i've managed to get to the seventh stage on one credit without breaking a sweat. is this normal? is it just a stupidly easy game, or does the difficulty crank up on the last few stages? i only had few lives because it took me a while to figure out the star collection = extends.
what is the general consensus on this package? nothing in the xenocide files

I wrote a review of this on www.shmups.com, which covers most of the important parts of the evo game scoring. Also worth noting, is the PAL release is not only slower, but also much easier than the JP one, which wasn't very hard to begin with. The JP one is definitely the one to own, set it to hard and it becomes less easy.

hadn't spotted the review so thanks. it's helped me figure out the seemingly random nature of star drops.
as usual a pal release that runs slower than elsewhere.... very irritating, and i expect to 1cc this later tonight due to the decreased difficulty.
i see no reason for every game now to offer a 60hz option and retain the difficulty as almost every uk tv can support the frequency. but you know. what do i know? i'm only the consumer lol

1cc of sheinryu explosion. kiss my face
i'll have to crank it up to hard and do it again.
oh and spoilers
did any of you finish it and ready that message at the end for some extra stuff? kill boss 3 using his own bullets to get ex1 and get to stage 5 boss with 2000+ stars for ex2. sounds interesting

On the PAL one, they even went as far as to change the weapons a bit, as well as decreasing fire rates. PAL hard still fires less bullets than JP normal..sjewkestheloon wrote: as usual a pal release that runs slower than elsewhere.... very irritating, and i expect to 1cc this later tonight due to the decreased difficulty.
