CPS-2 A + B separation
CPS-2 A + B separation
Hello folks,
I now own my first CPS2 (Progear). Separating the A and B boards seems very tough. I've removed the clips that hold them together, but it's still really hard to pull the two apart. Is that normal? Should I carry on trying to use brute force (when the point of no return comes and I know I have to change the battery!)

It's supposed to be difficult. You can get a lot of leverage, and they come apart fairly easily if you start seperating at the front of the board. I wouldn't worry about flexing, I think it's mostly the case rather than the board that is bending. You'll end up buying more b boards and you'll be separating them all the time.
When it does come time to change the battery, make sure you buy a special bit to get the screws out, plus there should be a security bold with a c stamped on it running throught the back corner of the b board that is hard to remove. I've had them come apart when I seperate the halves of the b board and I've also had to drill and pry it out.
Anyone have advice for removing that bolt?

You'll need a Torx screwdriver in order to gain access to the "sucide battery" in your Progear PCB -- replace it and it's good-to-go for another four more years or so... ^_~

Did you buy it from Cosmico? Is it phoenixed? I'v herd of some boots being permanently mated A+B boards.spadgy wrote:I now own my first CPS2 (Progear). Separating the A and B boards seems very tough.
It's impossible for them to be permanantly mated- you couldn't work on the boards and still have all that plastic between them. Er, a permanantly mated a and b wouldn't be in a case.
Still, anyone have a good method for taking out the security bolt?
Also, have no fear about taking the halves apart. Just start at the front to get some leverage with your fingertips and then it will just snap apart. It's just the very last moment of connection that is tight (for when you reassemble).

Nah - not phoenixed. It's just had a battery change before I bought it, so I don't actually have to get them apat for a while yet. It was just curiosity really, as it's my first CPS-2Dave_K. wrote:Did you buy it from Cosmico? Is it phoenixed? Well - I tried exactly that and it separated like a dream. For anyone else considering this just work your fingers from the front and be confident and it's easy.dpful wrote:Also, have no fear about taking the halves apart. Thanks Dpful (and everyone else who advised)
