2D Shoot Em Up with these specific characteristics?!

2D Shoot Em Up with these specific characteristics?!

I was wondering if there is a 2D Shoot Em Up (Horizontal or Vertical), where you start off with all weapons maxed up and as you progress, your primary weapons’ power / ammunition gradually decrease?!
So in this fashion, you’re forced to kill off everything fast and complete each level before your primary weapons are completely depleted?!

The closest to this scenario I can think of, are 2 Shooters:

Carrier Airwing / U.S. Navy (Arcade/ Mame)
Where your energy bar / fuel tank is gradually decreasing (especially even more if you’re shot)!

Macross 2 (Arcade / Mame).
The levels are time based pushing you to finish them and each boss fast before it runs out!

I would like to try something different more challenging and more adrenaline oriented than the classic 2D Shmup formula.
It can be on any system, as it’ll do just fine ;)

You're looking for Dodonpachi: Dai Ou Jou... Not some ammo-based game. Of which I can think of none, besides Ikaruga: Prototype mode. But... that mode is pretty broken, and is actually easier than the normal game =/

DOJ isn't different, but it's more challenging and more adrenaline oriented than any other shooter I've ever played in my life. If DOJ isn't fast paced and challenging enough for you, I suggest you stop playing vidoe games, and take up base jumping or become a racecar/speedboat/motorcycle driver or something.

No, DOJ is not what I'm after.
When I say challenging and adrenaline orientated, I don't mean manic shooters with millions of purple bullets! ;)

I'll stick to my original request ;)

I have a Famicom horizontal shooter called Baltron. The ship fires an energy bolt while simultaneously dropping a bomb and these weapons aren't upgradable, but the ship also has a fuel gage. The gage has two hash marks between full and empty. When the amount of fuel is above the first hash mark, you can launch a clear screen bomb. When the amount of fuel is above the second hash mark, you can engage the ships warp drive and warp the ship to another area of the level. Engaging the area bomb or warp engine costs fuel and your ship crashes when it runs out. Each level of the game is divided into two stages. The first stage is open flight over installations and the second stage is flying thru tunnels. Typically before entering the tunnel stage, there's a gantry on the ground launching floating fuel canisters and shield power-ups for you to grab.
It's not a game for graphic whores, but it is fun to play. There some Defender like aspects because it has a radar scope and because your ship is capable of reversing direction. Quite handy for hanging around gantry's and sucking in fuel canisters! Also, many of the tunnels have tough barriers that must be destroyed and you can reverse directions to make multiple runs at them.

That game sounds pretty interesting. It's a shame it's hard for me to get into roms.

I just found the game called "Space Trouble" for MSX. Your fuel decreases as you shoot.

and 1943 Kai. Both have the depleting life meter and limited ammo for special weapons. The NES 1943 also has a unique experience system that determines your stats and which weapons you can get. Scramble and Super Cobra have fuel and you have to keep shooting and bombing fuel tanks to survive. Isn't Shikigami no Shiro 1 time based?

Interesting...
Baltron has the red-white fan powerup also present in many Capcom games.

But the game it self is made by Toei Animation Shouei System.
I thought they were only into Anime productions ;)
Cool.
