Can an NTSC-J PS2 play NTSC-J DVDs?

If yes, what kind of hardware do I need to track down? I'm in the U.S., by the way.

Not necessarily.

You can get Asian R3 NTSC-J ps2's and you can get Japanese R2 NTSC-J ps2's.

Personally i'd prefer a R3 player (Which is what I have). DVD's in Japan cost alot and unless your after something really obscure you can find it on R3 quite alot cheaper.

If the machine is Asian, its R3. If its Japanese its R2. Both will play NTSC-J titles for PS1 and PS2.

You can use any ps2 slimline power supply as they are universal.

I have the Gradius Options special DVD and I'm looking for a way to play it. This is a great start for me.

get a modchip and play an region or homeburned DVD you want.

proboably alot cheaper than shipping a Jap PS2 to your house.

the gradius options DVD sucks anyways tho

Modchip idea is cool, just as long as you go to someone reputable.

I would only suggest getting a PS2 from Japan if your going to play games on it.

Use VLC Media Player for PC. Assuming you have a DVD drive in your PC...

I already have a JP PS2.

If the DVD sucks, tho', I may just pass. Grin.

And I'll see what happens when I slip the DVD into my iBook.

If you have the box of the ps2, the region code is stamped on the box somewhere. A round circle with a number in it.

I'll check when I get back from vacation but I'm pretty sure it's R2.

It came with the power supply. Do you mean the DVD remote control? Are those region locked?

It will play any standard "Japanese" DVD.
