Sega Saturn and Dreamcast (Playing Imports)

Post by Harlequin »

Hi

I have finally decied to buy both a Sega Saturn and
a Dreamcast for my next round of Shmup needs :D

I have a few questions tho, i want to be able to play
all region games for both consoles, how can i do this?

I have a PS2 and i modded it to be able to play Jap imports,
can you do this with both these consoles? Since i will be
buying them online are they available to buy already modded?

Thanks for the help!

There are mod chips for Saturn and there is a region switch install mod for the Dreamcast, so there is always that route. I don't know what is involved to do the region switch install mod for the DC, but Saturn mod-chips are pretty hard to come by these days as people have stopped making them.

There is always the DC-X for the Dreamcast. It's basically a boot disc that allows you to swap another game, so you could play imports using that.

Also, for Saturn, there are ST-Keys or Action Replay cartridges that go into the cart slot on the Saturn that allow you to play imports.

There are many options for both
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

you can do a switch for the saturn, if you can solder then you can do it. i have done tons of them, easiest one besides the GC.

i've never heard of a DC region switch, sure you didn't get those mixed up?
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

Thanks Guys, so at least its possible with both.

Might have to search for modded/already done consoles when
searching on ebay/trading section ;)

On a totaly unrelated topic, what about the Xbox and Mame?

Is it worth getting a old xbox for playing mame shmups?

Cheers!

An old X-Box is REALLY cheap now, last time I checked, one was $40, so if you have $40 on you....

Retarded expensive. Before supplies dried up, DC modchips (never that popular because of the bootdiscs) could be had for $5~$10. $29+asshole shipping would get you most of the way to both a US and a JP Dreamcast. I'd kill for a good source right about now (or the file used to program the PIC/FPGA)

There was a thread here a long time ago so you can flash a different bios on a DC making it whatever region you want
