First 1CC - Gunstar Heroes

Post by BUHA »

I played it again today for nostalgia's sake (i used to play this game all the damn time at my friend's house when i was a kid) and I was able to 1 credit it. It's also my first serious 1CC. I know it's not very hard, but at least it's an awesome game. Now i can play the new GBA one without feeling guilty!

It's funny, because I'm working on doing the same thing with Guardian Heroes.

Guardian Heroes 1cc... man, good luck, let us know if you do it. I can never control the enemies enough to get there on one credit, but if you can make it to the battle arena and whoop some ass before leaving, it should be feasible.

Playing as Randy, the Battle Arena is just not a good place to go :(

Right now I'm up to the end of the 9th stage, but I promptly get served by the boss.

This is going to take some work :)

Congrats. I don't consider beating Gunstar without continuing to be an easy feat at all, mostly because you rarely get to refill your power in the last stage.

Nice, I remember 1CC'ing (or I guess it's 1LC'ing as well) the game in a weekend after borrowing it from a friend. In fact, I had over 100 HP most of the time. I have no clue how I did it (well, I did use the saber practically the whole game) but I found the game ridiculously easy.

I got Gunners Heaven far later and never even got around to 1CC'ing it. Is the disparity in challenge that great? Or was I just naturally connected to Gunstar Heroes?

yeah, it really wasn't very hard at all, but it IS easy to screw up. the last battle, this certain attack he did must have done 90 damage on me. and i almost died.

im going to work on Contra HC now. now THAT is a hard game

US version of Hard Corps, right? Yeah, tough boss-fest (ironic how it "feels" more like a Treasure game than earlier Contras that Treasure staff were supposed to have worked on, huh?). Are you going for a 1CC to the last ending?

I used to play contra hard corps all the bloody time, loved that game but one thing I never new.

Was there 5 or 6 endings! I've seen 5 not 6 though. Its not hard just serious memorization, actually easier to 1CC than you think because getting to near last level with 4-5 lives is what it takes to beat the friggin boss! rather than just continue at start of level with less lives.

Hardest level was the alive hive for me, think I chased the commander and fought to the end. that last queen heart is tough to kill.

Elevator section kicked ass though with ed209 look alike, normally got killed if i used the big wolf guy wheras cx4 was soo small!

The only Treasure-related Contra games are Contra on GB and Contra III.
Hideyuki Suganami worked on Contra III (and then later Gunstar, Mischief, Radiant, etc) and Kouichi Kimura worked on Contra GB (and then later Guardian, Stretch, Dynamite, etc).

yeah, i'm playing the US version.

I'm thinking about trying the robot instead of the guy. he has that double jump.

i've made it to the end of stage 4 with one credit. how many levels are there? i figured 7 or 8.

Ha, that little robot guy rocks. Powerful as hell, too. I watched the tool assisted run with that guy and it was just awesome. Good luck with that run, man.

I was working on a similar run (with a different character) last year and got bummed because there was no way to record the video from within an emulator at the time (now there's a version of Gens out with video recording built in + I finally have my Genesis + Contra cart that I can hook up to my capture card). When you do manage to 1CC it (on any of the paths), be sure to record that bad boy and share it here.

If needed, I'll do up a tutorial on capturing the video from within Gens. :)
(and I'll host the video as well, if needed)

Yeah, robot dude is by far the best character in the game since many shots go right over its head. But playing the US version will even it out for you. Can't even remember the number of stages and endings nowadays...

:? well, if i'm lucky i'll be able to 1CC it sometime before I die. but if i do, i'll let you guys know about it lol

right now i'm nowhere near it. there's a new version of gens out? i'll have to go download it! and if i ever get close to 1CCing it, i'll worry about recording it then lol

I'm sure it's doable with practice. but right now it's really fucking hard.

Which ending?

I personally cannot fathom 1CCing that game and fighting the main heaven/hell boss. Given how stupidly powerful those guys are it just... no... cannot happen.

Man, I personally finding 1cc Guardian Heroes through ANY path just impossible.

And yes , heaven/hell boss is ... I don't know what word to use here, so I'll just say, is !@$*&#@$*^!*@&^

God, if you manage to 1cc guardian heroes... please let us know!

And for Buha, congratulations! Gunstar Heroes isn't all that hard, but it's no push-over either. Now try on hard level :D

Wow, that is awesome Buha. You should be proud. Easy? Gunstar Heroes at least has really tough bosses, I don't think I could ever 1 credit it.

Oddly enough, I have a harder time with Seven Force than I do with any of the other bosses. Of course, to attempt a 1cc, you have to get pretty lucky in Black's stage as well.

I think everyone agrees that Seven Force is the hardest thing on Alien Soldier :D. When I was in the 8th grade, a guy in the class had an original JAPANESE cart of this game.

Everyone who owned a Mega-Drive in that class borrowed the game from him at some point, and EVERYONE couldn't get past of the dreaded level 20 .. :D

I was the only one who could finish the game. After beating Seven Force, the rest of the game is easy :D

Alien Soldier is impossible to play on an emulator with keyboard.
I could easily finnish it on my Mega Drive back in the day, but I can hardly get pass stage 2 on an emu.
Keep in mind tough that I have 1cc Castlevania IV with a keyboard :)
Trek trough the Galaxy on silver wings and play football online.

i remember like 5 years ago i played Mario 64 on an emulator with the keyboard and almost made it to the end until i got bored of it lol i thought it was funny that i could play a 3D platforming game that way.

playing shmups or any kind of action game with a keyboard is just wrong to me. i just can't do it. doesn't feel right at all. like trying to drive a car with your mouth on the steering wheel or something.

Respect to Seventh force, truly the hardest run and gun boss ever made, but one of the best!
