Try Wingnuts from Freeverse Software. It's available for free to help promote Wingnuts 2.

Also Try Maelstrom. It's an Asteroids clone that's quite fun. It was originally designed for the really old-school Macs by the president of Ambrosia Software. Quite fun and addicting, and now it's open-sourced freeware.

Speaking of Ambrosia Software, here is their games page with free demos. I haven't played most of them yet, but Sketch Fighter looked interesting.

Honestly though, when I want to play a shmup on my mac, I usually use MAME. The Kenta Cho games linked above are also good. I'd also recommend getting a PS2 to USB adapter or an XBox 360 USB controller.
Inside Mac Games and their forums might have more info on games and hardware. However, it's not all that active... being about Mac games and all...

Oh, hi everybody! I've been lurking since the spring, and this is my first post. I hope it's helpful.

I'm not up to speed with much Netiquette - is it OK to link to a 'rival' forum like this?

I've always thought of STC as a supporter. Shmups just doesn't do PC related things like STC does, and the owner of STC is a member here, as well as a few other Shmups.com visitors. However Shmups DOES do info and high score boards.spadgy wrote:here's loads over on a similar thread at Shoot the Core:

Since when is there a competition between forums about shmups?
Besides that I think that any link to any other (if not offensive and against forum rules) website should be able to get posted.
Also STC is MORE than linkworthy, if not not for the man behind it (one of the greatest supporters of the genre afaik) then at least for it´s incredible and detailed PC shmup database.
