Do I buy this cabinet or not?

Post by caldwert »

So the offer is $95 for a Jojo's Bizarre Adventure cabinet. The monitor looks like its drunk basically. All sorts of warping at the top part of the screen and weird lines as if you're looking at a funhouse mirror. Now I've read this is probably just bad capacitors and a cap kit can fix this. Should I buy this or just say f it. I was going to use it as my horizontal cabinet instead of rotating my Astro City back and forth. So is it a cap kit or something more serious like bad solder points on the boards of the monitor? Any opinions would be appreciated. I'm not buying it for the game, more or less the cabinet.

Since there is no specific Jojo's cabinet, what does this cabinet look like? You are right that probably a cap kit will fix "that" monitor problem unless there are other problems but the price is certainly right! I say do it because it's a steal regardless and changing the monitor orientation is a pain!

You can sell just the game without the cabinet for more than $95 so I'd say just go for it, cause you really don't have much to lose as long as you have the space and the time to try and fix it.

Serious geometry problems like this usually indicates a tube to monitor PCB mismatch. It sounds to me like someone tried to fix the monitor by swapping in a monitor PCB from another cab (usually of the wrong size tube). A cap kit will not fix this.

Better to assume you will simply have to replace the monitor completely, or at least replace just the monitor PCB if there is no serious burn-in with the tube. If you are not experienced with servicing arcade monitors, I'd just avoid this headache all together and look for another working cab.

This cabinet is one of those Capcom ones that look like they have diamond plate metal as the bezel and by the controls. Edged with red trim also. I'm debating buying it and seeing if I can get it working. So its a total bitch to find the right monitor PCB? Its only $95 but then again I figure I could just wait and buy a Cave PCB with that money or go to the next Super Auctions and get something I know works. I just want a horizontal monitor so I don't have to flip the Astro City monitor.
