few questions about cabs
few questions about cabs
hi, i'd like to buy a few pcbs but i'm not sure if i want a cabinet (japanese style) or just a supergun. i know that control panels are changeable, are they all compatible or just with their own brand? also, do people put more than one pcb into a cab or just one at a time? what do you guys think of cabinets like Aero City or Astro City? is it possible to set the screen adjustment?
arcade monitors usually have lots of adjustment knobs. One PCB in the cab at a time unless you can make a little shelf to stack them on or something. Only one plugged in at a time at least unless you get some kind of multi-harness. I've got a harness extension that reaches out of the cab to the shelf next to it full of boards. Control panels are probably only compatible with their models (don't know), but making new holes or whole new face plates is no big deal. I greatly prefer cabs over superguns.

I know some are compatible, I think atomiswave and egret II/III's are like that.dpful wrote:Control panels are probably only compatible with their models (don't know)
There's a thing you can get where you plug four jamma boards into one mother board, plug the motherboard into the cab's jamma harness, and then choose your game by flipping a switch on the motherboard, but it's not really worth it. It isn't difficult to just switch pcb's in and out of a cab.
All cabinets are going to have monitor adjustments somewhere. On my egret II, it's behind the coin door. On my NeoGeo four slot, it's located on the back of the monitor, which is a big pain in the ass.
I've played on an astro city before and it seemed to be a pretty good machine. Like I said, I own an egret II, and I love it. It's dual sync, and you can tate the monitor very easily by yourself, whereas with an astro city, you'd probably need to get a friend to help you, and it's possible to damage the monitor in the process.
You should definitely get a cab instead of a supergun.

It might be easier if you tellus which cabinet your looking at gettinng.
Segas astros, naomi and blastcity all use the same pannel shape and size.
A good place to check out and ask this question would be Killercabs.com its mainly british guys but the information is universial and they get plenty of americans posting where cabinets are going for stupid low prices
