Yeah, I've never been able to warm to Bomb cause of the planning that's needed in the stages - although I think (could be wrong) that Bomb is higher scoring and better on most bosses than Roll.
The 3rd boss is a real pain in this game, it probably causes me the most problems in a credit. Getting a decent 2 bomb strategy down for it is a very good aim - making your second bomb take out the red health bar attack completely is essential. The best time to use the first bomb is still a bit of a mystery to me - the strat I use right now is a bomb immediately as the boss begins which almost kills one turret (the initial attack is much easier with only one turret) and then it's standard dodging until the last pattern, but the blue line down the middle + green lasers can sometimes need a bomb also...
