Post by Blue Peace »

it varies but I generally look near the middle of the screen or a little above my ship so I can tell where the bullets are going and where to dodge. I rarely look directly at my ship or directly at enemies because then I miss the bullets.

That's actually a good question.

When I was new to shmups, I used to focus on my ship's movement, meaning I would keep most of my attention on my ship more than anything else. Call it a fear of duying. But my confidence has risen over the years. And now I like to focus on what I'm shooting at, while at the same time watching out for the bullets it shoots (patterns, colors, speed, etc.). And while all this is going on, I can still see my ship in the corners of my eye. My thumbs do the rest by themselves. It's hard to explain, but it works.

Oh sorry, well if someone of the admins want to delete this topic then no problem, next time I will look for that sort of question.

I usually look at the middle of the screen or the enemy's bullets....without notice a bullet can come to my ship and then there's a boom from nowhere....then I restart the game and its repeating itself every time! :(

Depending on the pattern you'll be looking in different places but never directly at your ship, unless it's a 4 ways pattern that you'd have to watch from all direction for some reason -.-

Some patterns will have you look very close to your ship. Probably better players will look farther away though~

i tend to look at the middle screen, and eventually at the enemy itself... unless the bullet pattern its pretty tight, i wont focus on my ship, since my thumbs do the "calculations" automatically.

I tend to look at the ennemies, because:

- normally you know where your own ship is (after all, you puted it where it is all by yourself).
- normally with some practice you know how the ennemies' shots are going to behave (aimed, or stupid cheap 2 km/h unaimed manic-like pattern).

So for me, the important question is: which ennemy may still be alive (because I missed my usual pattern or because I always shoot him late), and what do I do when this ennemy is still on screen ?

I often look at the backgrounds or at the dust on my TV screen.

That's usually when I die.
