PSP Sengoku Cannon - Yay, it's actually a shmup

Post by Cthulhu »

This is somewhat unconfirmed for now, but in this month's issue of Dengeki PS (unconfirmed because the magazine isn't out at regular retail yet - some subscribers have gotten it though) they give some new information about Sengoku Cannon and it is indeed a shmup. It's horizontal like Sengoku Blaede, and features some old and some new characters, including the disciple of Tengai from the earlier games. No concrete details on development staff afaik. Supposedly screenshots are in there too but I'm not aware of any scans of them yet. If anyone finds any, put em here!

Hopefully, it's 3D because it won't get here otherwise.

Koyori is back...that's all I need.

Hopefully 20 other 2D shooters are released for the PSP around the same time so somebody will consider a compilation release for the US.

Probably the only way we'll see this here.

Yay, Ayin (now called Ein) is back! Hopefully he's as badass as ever.

The beating a dead horse gameplay sounds intrigueing. I wonder if it'll employ a charge meter like later Psikyo games, or be like their older games. Probably a meter, that's probably how we'd fire the cannon shot.

Add this to the list of games I'm really excited about for the PSP. Bringing the list to a grand total of ... hmm ... one.

If I owned a PSP and DS, I'd be more excited for this game than Nanostray.

Yup, you can play games from any region on any PSP.

Non-importers: there's never been an easier time to start than now. Play-Asia is your friend. Western releases are pretty much irrelevant when it comes to shooters these days, especially when we're talking about games on region-free consoles.

This has got to be good. Tsukasa Jun is back as the lead character designer/artist! :)

What I'm curious about is how much of the original Psikyo team is actually involved... sure, it's being put under that "name," but as far as I know no actual names are attached to the project yet other than Jun as the character designer. (I'm sure glad he's working on it though :D )

I don't have a PSP.

I'll still buy it though. Fucking Psikyo game in 2005, there is a God.

Odd. Koyori looks pretty much identical to how she looked in Sengoku Blade. And yet I hate how Ayin looks. He's all greased up and unnaturally muscular. Not that he was scrawny before, but it was more reasonable.

I guess with Koyori's naughty bits out for everyone to gawk at, they figured they might as well give some eye candy for the ladies (and some of the men).

Luckily the PSP has widescreen so it will be able to fit both of Koyori's breasts onscreen at once. A western release with that as cover art would probably sell quite well for Xnauts, don't you think?

A cover with those ... things ... would sell well, wherever it was released.

OOohhh, that's so unfair? Why only for the PSP? The chances of me ever owning a PSP is very, very close to ZERO.

Why not a PS2 port too? Please please...

Well if they ever die again, they can always rely on hentai for money.

Here's some more viewable screenshots, you have to scroll down a bit tho:

Well, the game looks pretty neat. I'm sold. Yay, something to do with my PSP other than Lumines and Metal Gear Acid!

Here's hoping it doesn't fall horribly short of our expectations

Sigh... this has sealed it for me too. I was hoping, as was my credit card, to hold off on a PSP for a year. Now it seems there is no hope. Must buy...

Guys, what's the big fuss (calling this THE reason to buy 250 portable, please)? The Sengoku series hasn't ever been too hot gameplay-wise, getting all hoped up won't do anyone any good. Remember previous threads like this? *Cough*R-TypeFinal*Cough*. Cool it down or face horrible disillusionment.

BTW, it looks like it's 3D to me from that shot in front of that building.

All I'm buying is the game, and only cause I like Psikyo - Sengoku Ace sucks and Blade isn't much better.
