Go for a JAP PS2 for hassle-free shooting, but give Ibara a swerve unless you're really keen to play it. Try ESPGaluda, DDPDOJ, and Mushihimesama first. ;)

Well I've played both the original PCB and PS2 port (the latter most extensively), and can safely reassure you people who say these things are plebs. Both versions are excellent. :)

It's a good port overall. Much better than the Ibara port. Well worth the $50-$60 it sells for these days.

take into account that a lot of yanks don't have RGB inputs on their tellies. i wouldn't hook up any console with s-video or composite. the mushi port with rgb and tate tv is actually pretty faithful, but the loading times are pretty bad. same as the ibara port on ps2 as well mate.

another reason to load games off a hard drive, which also solves the import issue.

try and go for a cheap arse old style ps2 second hand (i see them every week at the min at the bootsales for cheap) get a broadband adaptor ,hard drive(you might even have a spare lying around) and hard drive loader disc/memory card... then you can install games from any region onto your hard drive using a p.c and your set to go..

exactly. you could probably fit every PS2 shmup you own on a 10G drive. HDLoader claims a 40G min but that is not true.

I think playing it in RGB only accents it's short comings.

how ..the game plays exactly the same it just loads quicker and i've still got all my original discs unmarked and minty on the shelf ...

i cant see how it would detract from the experience unless you were actually stupid...

i still enjoy playing shooters on ps2 even tho i've got an aero city just across the room with galuda 2

What's the story with the booting from a memory card? Does that make it so you don't have to use the HDloader discs?
People I have dealt with successfully: bleem (x2), spazicon, sven666, sparky, iatneH, Dragon1952, kozo, Ghegs

for quite a while you could boot code from a memory card, but a friend with a modded PS2 needed to put it on there for you, and backups/imports were not possible from a disc (just harddrive). the code was triggered when you inserted a PS1 game. also, off a card you can run newer versions of HDLoader with better game support, like Gradius V for example.

now the Memor 32 memory card can straight-up mod the PS2 alone. Memento, the group that writes the unofficial code to make it do this, made a release today:

how about a fat ps2 and hd loader? every ps2 shmup works with it. and you wont ever need to use the discs, so there no risk in scratching them. and theres the plus of having your load times dramatically decreased.

gradius V and and another one do not work with a retail HDloader. Maybe some of the later HDAdvance or USBAdvance discs work (but not 2.0)
