I'm not getting shot over some cheeseburgers!

Post by Skyline »

Just thought I'd share with you some of the night's events.

At about 1:30 AM, I decided to go to the McDonalds a block away from my house, since the store has most recently changed it's hours to a 24-hour Drivethru.

Just as I pull up to give the guy the money for my food, he runs to the back hurriedly. Following him is a guy in a grey sweatsuit and a black facemask, holding a gun. The place was being robbed. And while the guy didn't see me, I saw his fuckin' ass.

Two double cheeseburgers isn't worth a bullet in the head, I backed the fuck out of there, called the cops to report it, and drove around for a good 10 minutes just to avoid being followed.

Just saw it on the news a few minutes ago, and thank fucking GOD! No one was hurt. Even though as I was backing out, people were pulling in to place their order.

...then again, this IS that kinda neighborhood. :/

Man, thats pretty intense.
At 1:30 last night, I was at home milking a really cool beer buzz with a few more beers...

Hangovers suck!!!

Its good to hear that nobody was hurt or even killed, as these things happen and usuallly go from bad to worse. Its never a good idea to try and be a hero when you have some despirate asshole with a gun.

Well on the bright side, that guy did save your body from a serious case of junk food poisoning.

Good to know you also reported the thing to the cops. Did they get the perpetrator?

Glad to hear you're ok Skyline!

It strikes me that American Cities at nightime are not safe - at all. Even when i was on exchange with Cleveland State University (several Moons ago), they told us not to go downtown at night & to definitely lock car doors. One of us had his passport stolen at knifepoint at 9pm, 2 girls were robbed in the student accomodation fore-court. etc. OH...and the whole Puerto Rican Student Baseball Team Gang-Banged one of the student girls in our student accomodation :D - THAT ONE MADE THE LOCAL PAPERS!

Of course, Cleveland is just a small city. So Downtown Las Vegas must be erm....

Actually, Cleveland and Las Vegas are about the same size population-wise. Of course, LV has a lot more visitors all the time...

They caught one of em, hiding in the apartment complex a block away.

Smart guy. :B

DEL:
The Downtown area over here...eh. All of the homeless shelters etc. are sorta lumped together in one area. So the surrounding community sees a lot of drug use, homeless people, and the usual bullshit that comes from that. The tourists are usually clumped within where all the casinos are (The Strip, Fremont Street, etc) and those areas are usually adequately guarded with police and hotel security, though people still do get mugged.

Around where I live (northeast side of town) is very lower class (trailer parks), lot of drunks and crap. My father for some unknown reason thinks this is the safest area in town just because we're across the screen from Nellis Air Force Base..haha.

The Air Force got bigger fish to fry.

And even so, Vegas as a whole has got a HELL of a lot less crime than "back home" in New York City.

One of the guys from school in the year below me got put in hospital 2 days ago.

He was driving through the town, got followed a car overtook him and forced him to stop. 4 guys got out with ballclavas on used a bar to smash his windscreen, dragged him out and beat the hell out of him. he woke up in hospital with bruised ribs. He had done nothing wrong. lucky to be alive.
Turns out the guys who did this are serious drug dealers and had followed him all night. and now hes supposedly after 3 kids i know who beat up his brother or some crap like that.

Not sure what to make of it, but these kids are too young for that sort of punishment

I live in Rio de Janeiro.

YES!

I've been in the middle of gunfire 4 times in my life.
I've a friend who was shot in the face while she was sleeping (A bullet came from her window).
I've been gun-robbed twice
Nearly all my friend have been robbed at least once in their lives
I've a couple of cousins who are drug-dealers (Though I haven't talked to either for ages now)
My house has been hit by bullets at least 3 times.

Very nice place to live, I can tell you.

Skyline,

There is absolutely no shame in running from a fight that could get you killed, especially over some cheeseburgers. Even if you where armed to the teeth, I'd say you did the right thing. Neither you or even the police have any obligation to put yourself unnecessarily in harms way.

That being said, if you're cornered with no way out, then your best option is to just to shoot the prick, repeatedly. You have a right to defend your life, family and property in this country.

The scenery is indeed beatiful. It's most on south area, the opposite where I live though :D. In south area there are much more robbings (Mainly because that's where the more rich people live and where tourists go).

And yes, the women are gorgeous.

And people usually are very kind. It seems that's a characteristic from the brazilian, but it's usually said that people are even more kind here in Rio.

The big problem here are with the drug-dealers. When the favelas (don't know how to say this in english) begun to grow, the governments didn't care too much, and now it's like the drug-dealers are the true governors of those areas. People respect their laws, they give protection to their neighborhoods, and all this kind of stuff.

Shee son, I would have jumped out of my car and put some stocking over my head and joined him. Sounds like fun!

After ransacking Mickey D's, we would have headed over to Hardees. I've got a beef to settle with them.
