What an awesome compilation! Metal Black too, now I won't have to pay for the Saturn rev.
Bubble Bobble is nice and a given but I wonder if other greats like New Zealand Story or Liquid Kids will be on there too? Hey Capcom, you taking any NOTES on how to do your rumoured mega compilation based on this?
Between this and the Mushihime port I could not have picked a better time to decide to buy an import PS2. Both the Taito collection and Mushi are released at about the same time, what a great summer for 2D. Hurry up tax refund!!!! (next year I am filing online grrr)

Yeah, like I said, I'm amazed Metal Black is on there. And I have never played it in arcade, Sat or emu and look at all the other goodies already.Ganelon wrote:That's pretty damn ambitious...much newer games than I thought.
So Capcom, feel like maybe actually giving me a reason to buy your comp over Taito's? Oh..ya know, like putting ALL the 194X series, ya know such as putting ALL of the games in the series on the discs including '41 and XX would help. Oh yeah, and Varth too.
Seriously if Taito and Capcom's mega comps were released the same day it's almost a sure thing I'd get Taito's over theirs. Unless of course Capcom includes XX and a lot of other more "modern" classics that could be emulated very easily on PS2 instead of dumping 95% stuff already available on the old Sat and PSX generation discs.
EDIT: Wow, Darius Gaiden too, nice.

Thanks for the heads up, Recap.
I'm not terribly stoked about this, though, as I already own a chunk of the stuff they're putting out. Still, for those that will finally get to play Metal Black (which I quite like despite it's mediocre reputation), this is good news indeed.
Regardless, I will buy this of course. And the Capcom comp. And whatever other 2-D re-releases they put in front of me. Just like the salivating, Pavlovian dog that I am.

Holy freakin' crap. Metal Black on that comp too (of course I already own it, but this is just nutz!) Let the big Taito love in BEGIN! RASTAN!!! (I assume will get the original Rastan 1!!!) This and the Capcom set (never mind Taito Memories 2) Holy holy holy! I am telling you, 2005 is THE YEAR!

Eugenics: you know it's right!
Ooh, a sweet, sweet list of games indeed. Lots of new stuff on there, very nice. If Vol. 1 is that good... by all means, bring on Vol. 2 as quickly as possible! (I don't see Operation Wolf being nearly as fun at home as it was in the arcades though... whatever.)
I love the SNES Kiki Kaikai games, but the original is a bit... basic. It's still fun, but I found that it didn't age too well for me. Your mileage may vary of course.
Capcom recently re-released the Capcom Generations 1 & 2 collections along with a mini-strategy guide, so I don't think a Capcom collection is in the cards for now. It would sure be nice if I was wrong though.
As for Konami... yeah, I'd love to see a collection of their 8-bit / 16-bit stuff as opposed to the MSX discs. The MSX games are fun, but... I like their later stuff a bit more, personally. Actually, if they released something with their MSX-2 games on it, that'd be pretty damn cool as well.

MAME on PS2? No way. Emulation? Most likely.tehkao wrote:I wonder if it's just MAME and a bunch of Taito ROMs put on a CD...

@Tehkao: You are 100% right about Taito games (esp. shmups). Examples are Exzisus and most Dariuses.
Syvalion was meant to be played with a trackball in the arcade (hence bad control on other media), but its soundtrack kicks OGR, Namiki and that Treasure guy's ass .
But I don't understand...why Darius Gaiden and Elevator Action Returns (got a recent GBA release, right)? Are New Zealand Story and Chack N' Pop there?

Hmmm...speaking of Syvalion, I read somewhere that the Darius Silverhawk makes an appearence somewhere in the game? Is there any truth to that?
I also think that Metal Black is a cool game, I know it is simplistic, but it is still fun.
Taito should come out with a Darius collection, with every Darius game on it.

No comment on Gridseeker???
Not the most exciting shmup out there, but I am stoked since there was no home port! Kinda like getting Samurai Aces on the Psikyo collection. Played it to death in MAME, but it becomes exciting again when you get a home port!
