Taito FX-1B question

I noticed in the manual a slot on the MB for memory cards, what does this do. Will it save high score? I know the MB will save settings for the board but i dont think it saves high score after the power is turned off.

The FX-1 is an animal I'm not too familiar with, but being as spinning a new PCB design is not cheap, many mfrs. will have extra options on their PCBs for future use, which in many cases never come to fruition. Taito F3, for example, has spots for extra connectors that are not used, afaik...
