Obviously playing games detracts from her woman work. AKA doing the laundry and fixin' samiches. Her NES must be connected to the kitchen television.

Perhaps that is what you were looking for?

No, this game is not Space Invaders.

oh look a little 1up!
lol. no really if someone coherent were to edit this rambling-streak into a reasonable length i'd probably actually enjoy it. at least she made me feel like playing the game she's talking about, that's more than most raving reviewers manage.

That said, she's pretty annoying, but at least she's trying.
It´s not because she is a woman, but an annoying person somehow reinforcing negative stereotypes (women talking endlessly about neglectable details in a high-pitched, squeaking, baby-talk voice).

On the bright side: She isn´t playing Nintendogs or The Sims. Yeah, if some people enjoy it, good for them. It´s not that this stuff is outright offensive, just a bit hard to stomach for me...

What about Civilization or Sim City? Hell, if I had to beat FFXII: Revenant Wings or Sengoku Musou Katana before reviewing them I'd have simply quit reviewing. I wouldn't beat these games even if you paid me 20 bucks an hour to beat them.

Not to mention arcade games. If I was supposed to be 1ccing them I'd never get around to reviewing anything.

I think she was pretty nice! It was lengthy, and not really a review of the game itself, but nonetheless interesting - she'd need some encouragement.

Of course, that's assuming she not knowing about the code is a ruse done for the sake of the show.

P.S. I agree she might work on her looks, but let's not overdo it. The teacher aura and the glasses must stay.

Can't do that, I am afraid. Cause then my readers would have to go back to reading 1UP or Euroidiot, and I can't bring myself to do that to them.

i'm sure they'll both cope.

just suffered through your article on japanese arcade culture

seriously though, am i the only person who never reads a review of anything? i think they're almost redundant now. if i'm interested in something, i'll find a gameplay video of it somewhere, download it, and know if i'll like it straight away or not. i honestly can't remember the last time i actually read a review of a game...

Actually, I am certain they won't. Many of them have already told me so.

I understand. Thankfully I haven't had to suffer through any of your articles.

They are redundant because all they do is regurgitate the manual, or tell you things you can figure out by watching the trailer. If you ever manage to "suffer" through a review that includes actual insightful criticism you'll see why they are indispensable. In a nutshell, the reason the videogame industry has gone down the toilet in the last ten or so years is because reviews suck. And undemanding or indifferent gamers like you are certainly not helping.

i have a good sense of judgement, and know what i like.

it was weird when people on here were buying last hope and dreamcast, and then saying it sucked...!?!? i could've told you that when they put the first screenshot up on neo-geo.com.

and i couldn't care less if the industry goes down the toilet or not (subjective point anyway). whether you think it has or hasn't, i wouldn't say game reviews would be the cause of it.

but i don't need to read *anything* and that's my point. in the days of old, i'd read the saturn or dreamcast magazine's import section, because it was practically the only source of information available. but in the age of the information super-highway, i simply just don't need it.

(i just found the article far too new-age-journalist for me. i take it you're unpublished. the first thing with print press is having a set amount of words to use, so you make your points a bit more efficiently without going over the same things all the time. and then the point you were making about not using continues, i don't think it is correct anyways. but forum member spadgy is a freelance published writer. maybe you could ask him to look at your stuff and give you some tips)

There's a lot of wisdom in that line. You should think about copyrighting it.
jpj wrote:but i don't need to read *anything*
I know. I can tell by your diction.
jpj wrote:i take it you're unpublished.
Actually I am published, in two languages.

As for your tips, thank you but they are worthless. Not to mention wrong.

I think she has a pretty good attitude to games, which is worth more than anything. Not too bad, but definetly way too long.

Somebody sounds a little bitter. You know, I played some Guitar Hero II and it was pretty fun! Maybe you should try it.

I've got something else that's bitter that maybe you should try, but I can put a little sugar on top for you if you want.

I'm not too much into reviews either, which is why I don't write many. I generally try to keep it to the obscure. Then again, I have basically no time to do so lately, so my site is more of a showcase than a place to rant about X game.

You are one of my favorite reviewers! Sometimes you say some funny stuff in 'em (like that you prefer shooters with lifebars!)
I also like when you make fun of the boxart  Still, they are short, tell you what the game is, and say whether you like it or not and why. In other words, write some more reviews! I've already read all of the ones up at your site.

I consider those more or less "write ups" than reviews. They serve their purpose, IMHO. I obviously couldn't write a page on each game listed (and a lot of the games don't deserve that much). Making fun of box art is like a sport... don't get me going on western box art.

I think the debate here about reviews' effectiveness is a bit naive. Of course when you invest years in a passion, whether it's music, games or else, you develop tastes and acquire a certain degree of knowledge, so that you know at first glance what might suit and whatnot.
That said, I didn't stop to read game journalism, quite the contrary. Sure, plain reviews on commercial sites aren't the most interesting read... You know, the ones which comment on graphics, gameplay, a paragraph for sounds, and one or two fitting punchlines.

Nowadays, when I read a review on a site/blog, it usually is more revealing about the writer than the game itself. Little Miss Gamer here might serve as an example. I'm sure I didn't gain a single ounce of Gyruss lore from that video. Still, it was interesting to see her cope with the game. Not to mention filming in an outdoor location... a rollercoaster for Gyruss, nice analogy.

Gaming articles I enjoy and recommend come from: Toastyfrog, Solidsharkey, World of Stuart, NTSC-UK.com, Insert Credit, and well, all the more-or-less underground fandom (from OPCFG to HG101 and onward).

Edit: another woman worthy a mention here is Flying Omelette! Check her page!

I could only stand to watch about 50 seconds of that. She needs a new sense of humour, a new voice, and a new face.

What. A. Grating. Voice.

She seems nice enough, but the entire thing felt too "golly, gee whiz!" and "teehee!" for me to stomach for very long. The whole thing felt pretty condescending, over-the-top, and fake.

The beginning could have had the potential to be cute if it would have lasted for only 15 seconds. Instead it went on... and on... and on...

I turn into a ball of expletives when I play games. She seems like she would disapprove of my gaming habits.

I find that the problem with video reviews is that the reviewer often focuses way too much on developing a charismatic personality instead of actually reviewing the game. I don't want to see shots of your reactions to playing the game unless it's absolutely necessary. I want to see the game itself.

I am about as lightened up as I could possibly ever be; I am practically rolfing every time I post something. But when you direct a comment such as this towards me:

That's good to know, means I'll probably live forever. I am so calm you can barely feel my pulse.

Btw, wanna take me up on my offer, since doctorx0079 doesn't seem to want to "bite"?
