twe - With regard to difficulty on Mush: Maniac Mode can be played safe & easy or aggressive and more difficult for chain & score, obviously without bombing. On the whole, its easier than DOJ and the chaining is more forgiving (which I like). ST5 ramps up the difficulty a bit, but its not too bad if you attack it aggressively.

The Autofire circuit that the Japanese and HK players are using does indeed boost the chains 5 X higher and more, giving HUGE scores. I hope they program-out this cheat/trick when they Port it. Plus I hope that they don't do a GWG type lazy Port!

I hope the PS2 can handle it all.

one things for sure, the developers better know what their doing.

great news anyway. :D
we don't need to be worried about the ps2 at all, it is probably capable of running all the cave shooters simultaneously. i just don't have much confidence in the guys that port the games

Damn cool. Thank you a million, Taito. :D :D :D

Hopefully the Maniac mode makes it over. I"m sure the Tate will be there. Cave will most likely be shooting steam out their ears if it is not.

"Hi Mark,

thank you for contacting Play-Asia.com.

We have received the information right from Sony's official distributor
yesterday late evening. We did not want to wait so posted it right up. We
are very sure that the information is correct and expect the game to be
announced by Taito shortly.

In case you have subscribed to our personal agent or checked our July
preorder listings, you may have recognized that we have started listing a
lot of new preorders yesterday night.

For your further information, Mushihimesama already has a Sony catalogue
number (which is SLPM-66056). The game will be a DVD release supporting
1-2 players with a Japanese recommended price tag of Y5,800.

In case of any further question please do not hesitate to contact us
again.

Best regards,

After I had the pleasure to play Mushihime Sama at the London shmupmeet (and watch DEL, ARC and ARM pretty much taking it apart), I finally decided to cave in (pun not intended) and buy a PS2, have it modded and then order Mushi and a PS2 Saturn style pad straightaway. It's THAT good.

I'm not even remotely a Cave fanboy, so that means something.

By the way: I feel that there's a serious misconception of the three game modes, as most people seem to think that they are different difficulty settings. This is NOT the case.

Obviously, ultra mode is insane, but the other two modes don't differ much in difficulty, they just present two rather different challenges. Original mode confronts you with few, but very fast, bullets much in the vein of Truxton/Tatsujin. Maniac mode has more but slower bullets and is more what you'd expect from a Cave game. The different modes really play like three different games, not like three difficulty settings of the same game.

Thanks for your impressions, Schatten. Sounds like it has some excellent variety. I sure hope we get all the modes in the port.

I would have paid to have seen that. There are no arcades to speak of where I live, let alone expert players taking apart games :(

Now that's interesting to hear...it seems as if Cave is trying to widen its appeal a bit, to reach out to more "old school" shmuppers as well as "manic" fans...not to mention, of course, the Raizing influence in the upcoming Ibara. Let's hope that this diversification effort is successful...and that someone finally includes Optional Rank. :P

Where is MS in London? Some italians a little time ago were planning a week end in London only for Mushihime...

Maybe this time:

http://jbbs.livedoor.jp/bbs/read.cgi/ga ... 682257/234

Seems that next Famitsu will announce (feature?) Mushi for the PS2. Sengoku Cannon may also appear in some form or other. Oh. And Generation of Chaos V and a new Konami RPG called 'Twelve', for those who care.

With the board down to the low price of $1800, you'd figured there'd be one already. :)

Normally I wouldn't be THAT excited for another CAVE game port,
but having had the pleasure of playing this at the arcade in London...

I REALLY want to have this game! I just hope they won't screw up the port and give us a DDP DOJ quality port!

Believe the hype his time... :D

I've wanted this thing since day one. If I can get it off Yahoo JP Auctions I will rip it. Unless there is a way for someone in Japan to order for us ( I can't read it ).

Just to touch a bit on what Recap has posted, click has a story linked from Gamespot (of all sites, but hey they did report on progear really early way back in 2001) reporting on the Mushi port. The figurine this time will be a figure of Reko as a child. There will be two editions of the game, one with the figure and a pack without it which is cheaper of course.

Most importantly: it will have 3 modes including a special arrange mode where you set off a bomb automatically as soon as you are hit. With 4 modes, I guess we can assume (for now) maniac is on there too. Although maybe by "similar," (see story quote below) they mean maniac will be modified or scaled back a bit? Link to the gamespot story, big thanks to Click for finding it:

http://www.gamespot.com/news/2005/04/26 ... 23049.html

From the second half of the story:
The PlayStation 2 port of Mushihime-sama will feature three difficulty modes similar to the arcade version. It will also include a new "arranged mode," which offers extra functions to help out the player, such as an automatic bomb trigger that goes off when the player is hit by an enemy. For more information, check out Cave's official Mushihime-sama arcade Web site.

LOL. So Gamespot reads Famitsu and is interested in "niche" games now...
