More from G.Rev?
More from G.Rev?
While we all get jazzed for Senko no Ronde and keep out eyes peeled for the DC version, it looks like G.Rev is already gearing up for their next project. Highlight the ARCADE section on their mainpage.

I guess it's really a nothing kind of thing, but I wasn't expecting them to tease their next project so soon. It confirms that it'll be another arcade title, too, which bodes well for us.

The secret text on G-Rev's website simply contains question mark symbols, then dots, and the words "coming soon". i.e. just a generic indication that they are working on a new arcade project.Randorama wrote:I don't get any text to be "revealed", GP< can you send a PM if it's too much of a spoiler...?

Wow, that's amazing!
Thanks Frogacuda! I'm continually stunned at how these guys keep rolling out the projects. When I found that MileStone were working on Radilgy so soon after the consumer ports of Chaos Field were released, I could barely believe it. Then again, if I had a team of awesome designers, writers, artists, composers and programmers, you can bet that there'd be a lot of developing going on.
Now, remembering that I'm quite unversed in the history of these companies... If they hint at something on their own home page, it would probably indicate that they're not necessarily producing something which someone else owns the rights to, right? Meaning, it probably wouldn't be this new "Darius" sequel that lots are clamoring for... right?
Plus, since it would be only their third/fourth game, I'd figure that anything could happen. Maybe another slightly-unusual title, maybe a return to the straight shoosting...

a new Darius???
Wow, somebody up there likes me!!

This talk of Darius forces me to reply with a slightly off-topic diversion...
All I know is that I was looking at my PSP this morning thinking of possible shmups. Tried holding it sideways to see if a TATE-like way of holding the console for vert shooters would work and still be able to control and hit the buttons (I don't think it would, no Wonderswan here!). Then I started thinking about horizontal scrollers and I'm thinking that a Darius game (or compilation) would be awfully nice on that wide screen. Darius 1 and 2 in original widescreen, plus Gaiden, and G-Darius in one pack would be niiiiice. Probably have to be Taito to make it, but hey... Maybe G-Rev could make a new Darius (or at least a spiritual sequel).
Of course, a new Darius by anyone would always be welcome!

I don't think they mean a "true" sequel. It's just that Border Down was basically an unofficial sequel/followup to Metal Black, so alot of people out there are hoping they'll do a similar project paying tribute to one of the other games they worked on, like Layer Section or Darius.icepick wrote:Now, remembering that I'm quite unversed in the history of these companies... Please, for the love of god, change your avatar. It makes me nauseous looking at it, it's sickening. I swear to god, it looks like someone cut up different heads from cadavers, put the pieces together to make that head, and took a picture of it.aphexacid wrote:Dance of optical rotation

sorry, i just though that translation was hilarious
Frogacuda: Ah, I see! Well, since I unfortunately haven't played Metal Black, then I suppose that it's good that they made Border Down (and got me into all this shmup craziness in the first place!), and since I haven't played any of the Darius games either, I suppose that I'd like it if they made an unofficial continuation of/tribute to that series as well! Thanks for clearing that up.
alpha5099: That's Aphex Twin for you. Weird, weird, sometimes creepy stuff. Pretty music, though.

Did you still want that PM?Randorama wrote:Ah, ok, thanks, thought something wasn't working.

Yeah, I think above everything else, they probably like games, which counts for a lot. They seem like the kind of guys that'd give a site full of English speaking weirdos an interview if they asked for it.I'm continually stunned at how these guys keep rolling out the projects.

Yeah, they even replied in English saying to stop requesting for a Border Down release on the Dreamcast because they were already doing that (it said something more along the lines of "already being considered"). When it did come out, we get an LE version that comes with different front cover artwork, a music CD, and the jackets of the regular version of the game and the music CD inside the jewel case. Then when we put the game in our Dreamcasts, we can see the CD artwork in complete color if we view it on the CD player (something that Ikaruga didn't have, although the Ikaruga wallpapers are better), and a complete remix mode with remixed music (!!).GaijinPunch wrote: Yeah, I think above everything else, they probably like games, which counts for a lot. Ugh. Just mentioning that makes me want to get Doki Doki Idol Star Seeker Remix.

I think alpha5099 has a fair enough comment.alpha5099 wrote:Please, for the love of god, change your avatar. It makes me nauseous looking at it, it's sickening. aphexacid: please find an avatar that our more sensitive forum users can stand to look at. We've had trouble in the past with people using horror film avatars and freaking people out. I'm sure those folks will appreciate it.

Yes, it's still too early to talk about it. However, G.Rev are ex-Taito employers that all worked on G.Darius, hence ( i think) Pepsi's comment.

Border Down is an unofficial sequel of G.Darius, especially in gameplay. Yack and Maruyama (the musician and chief programmer/boss) worked both on Metal Black. Also, Metal Black was meant to be as the third Darius, then became an indipendent title. i think i've put these elements in my guide or review, in case you want to checkdave4shmups wrote:Ahh, I see. And I remember the ex-Taito thing being part of the reason why Border Down looks and plays similar to Metal Black.
Let's hope they do a Darius Sequel, as Taito seems to have abandoned the series after G-Darius came out.

I'd rather not be labeled as one of "our more sensitive forum members." I have a pretty sick sense of humor, and I can usually stomach gorey stuff. But that avatar just gives me the willies.Thunder Force wrote:I think alpha5099 has a fair enough comment.
