Is it as good or better than the SFC one?

It's filled to the brim with anime cutscenes and stuff, though. If you're a Macross fan it's worth having. If you're just a shoot'em up lover, you can easily give it a pass.

Yeah, it's less of a shmup and more of animated cutscenes with shooting in-between. Most might be lead to believe it's a long shooter because it has 2 discs, but really, that's just because of all the animated scenes (that I'm assuming) are lifted straight from Do You Remember Love?.
only the macross fans themselves might get a kick out of it.

I'm a macross fan so I like aspects of it. I gets everything right except, well you don't shoot that much. It needed a dose of action.
Damn Tim, you know there are quite a few Americans out there who still lives in tents due to this shitty economy, and you're dropping loads on a single game which only last 20 min. Do you think it's fair? How much did you spend this time?

While most is indeed from the movie, they actually created a few animated sequences exclusively for the game (that take place before the movie). Reason enough for a fan to buy it.shinsage wrote:because of all the animated scenes (that I'm assuming) are lifted straight from Do You Remember Love?.
However, the game isn't a good shooter.
Gamewise, the Saturn original is superior to the PS1 conversion, however the videos look better on PS1 (which has superior video playback hardware, after all)

Wait, how does the game play better on the SS? As for videos, the SS has grainy video with huge borders whereas the PS offers both minimal artifacts and fullscreen.Ceph wrote: Gamewise, the Saturn original is superior to the PS1 conversion, however the videos look better on PS1 (which has superior video playback hardware, after all)
I'm a Macross fan and I have to say this is far worse than Scrambled Valkyrie and 2036. Still leagues better than that FC crap though.

I concur. The game is a must have if you like anime based japanese saturn games (come on, I know you do
)
If you're a fan of the anime you'll love the setting - the first levels are more like the series, but the ending is definitely like the movie, background song included!
As a shmup PER SE it is not that remarkable - scrambled valkyrie is way better - but it's fun to play and to experience. If you're a macross fan, definitely go for it.
If you aren't, but you find it quite cheap, I'd say go for it as well. Do not expect something groundbreaking and you'll have some fun. And another playable japanese game for saturn, which isn't bad

Wasn't the GBA game a western designed Robotech game, not Macross? The first Robotech used Macross and the game was based on the Macross saga, but Robotech was one of those western franchises that tried to combine multiple anime shows into one continuity. I haven't played the GBA Robotech, but I heard it's not too hot.Arvandor wrote:How is the Macross on the GBA? Any good?
