Sho Ren Sha, Kamui, Zen Ichi (even though the main ship feels to big) and Demolition Gunner.
Why does most 640x480 games feel empty and lack intensity compared to games with a resolution of 320x240, 256x256 or something similar, even though there is more happening on the screen? My ideal game retain the ship to screen ratio of games like Sho Ren Sha even at higher resolutions.

I can think of a few reasons for this:320x240 wrote:Why does most 640x480 games feel empty and lack intensity compared to games with a resolution of 320x240, 256x256 or something similar, even though there is more happening on the screen?
1.) Some people just like the look of low-res, even if it is inferior in the technical sense (just like some people prefer listening to stuff on vinyl).
2.) The less detail there is on the screen, the more your imagination has to fill in. Porn directors have been complaining about this ever since the advent of HD.
3.) I think resolution, attention to detail, and animation quality all need to be good to get a good result. A 640x480 game with bland sprites just looks amateurish and lifeless; all the higher resolution does is draw extra attention to how bland it is. OTOH, a 320x240 game crammed with detail can look impressive. Similarly, a high-res game with choppy animation doesn't look all that great.

Huge majority of doujins copy Cave style gameplay with tons of slow bullets, not that there's anything wrong with that.Harlequin wrote:Which style are most of these SHooters in? CAVE, Raizing or Psikyo style?
Also when i try these out can i play in TATE mode with my LCD Monitor?
What about an Xarcade stick?
Cheers!

Tate is rarely supported.
I heard X-Arcade can't map stick to arrow keys, and since large percentage of doujins can't be controlled with anything else, it can be a bit problematic.
Maybe newer models have this fixed.

At least Cave tries to kill you.
a lot of them doujins just throw bullets a zillion miles away
or have rather short bursts of aimed bullets
In something like DDP you have aimed bullets coming at you all the time in stage 5. Gotta constantly herd and cutback while dealing with other crap. With doujins the streams just end before you even reach the other side of the screen.
