#1 problem: no Sara Jaffe on the guitar. #2 obnoxious lyrics that seem to be the focus of the song. That album was mediocre.

The Hex Dispensers - s/t (My favorite record of the year? It's looking like it. Saw these guys (and gal) open for a reunited, original-lineup Immortal Lee County Killers the other night, and they slayed. Plus! They're local kids. Pa, Neon, other distinguished gentlemen: ya'll might want to check 'em out.)

and some old friends:

The Immortal Lee County Killers - The Essential Fucked Up Blues! and Love is a Charm of Powerful Trouble (Like I was saying, I saw these guys Friday. Great set, despite some initial shakiness due to Chet and Doug not having played together in six years. Completely erased the memory of the tepid third album.)
The Screws - s/t
V/A, covering The Scientists - Set it on Fire

and some ancient friends:

Autechre - Tri Repetae ++
Silverfish - Cockeye
The Clash - London Calling

The Dresden Dolls - Self Titled

Pretty cool band that my girlfriend introduced me to, I brushed them off as a chick band for about a year but now I'm getting into them. Gonna see them in December in Baltimore, should be cool.

I saw Om and Grails last night. Great show. They played a song from the new one and it sounded pretty good but they sold out of Pilgrimage though so I have nothing to compare it to sound wise. I picked up the Om/Current 93 split on CD and a vinyl copy of Variations on a Theme.

Bowery Electric - Bowery Electric
Ulrich Schnauss - Goodbye

Just got the latter last week. The former is a classic I just dug up again. Both are ace.

Picked up a few new (to me at least) rekkids:

Steve Moore - The Henge (I'm not sure, but I may like this even better than his stuff with Zombi. And I really like Zombi.)
Jesu - Lifeline EP (Heh. Sadflesh. Feeling this a lot more than Conqueror, which has nothing to do with that album's quality. It's just that when the previous album came out, I wasn't in the mood for a mopey record (death in the family, etc.). When I'm sad, I wanna rock, dammit. I'll go back and check out Conqueror with fresh ears at some point.)
Haunted George/The Hex Dispensers - split 7"
The Hipshakes - "You Make Me Malfunction"/"Duh Duh" 7"

and also:

River City Tanlines - I'm Your Negative
Pentagram - Relentless
The Screws - Shake Your Monkey
The Motards - Stardom
Napalm Death - From Enslavement to Obliteration
Isis/Pig Destroyer - "Streetcleaner"/"Genital Grinder"/"Regurgitation of Giblets"/"Exhumed to Consume" split 7" (Ehhh...you guys have heard this right? Isis covers Godflesh and Pig Destroyer, Carcass. Awesome, natch.)
The Hex Dispensers - s/t (Still in rotation from last week.)

and this morning:

Weedeater - Sixteen Tons

A good album and my first introduction to Ulrich. You owe it to yourself to check out his previous record A Strangely Isolated Place if you haven't already.

Cool. First I've heard of this. How is the overall quality? I'm figuring it's going to be a mixed bag due to it being a compilation. But maybe not?

And speaking of covers. Well...remixes, actually:

V/A, remixing V/A - Ambient Intermix (Mainly worth it for Adham Shaikh remixing Sub Dub, and vice versa.)
Massive Attack vs. Mad Professor - No Protection

The sound quality is consistently good up until the demo tracks start. Then it gets pretty raw, which you might wind up liking more.

Incantation - Diabolical Conquest

I could never see myself enjoying death metal much, but good lord! Slow as Kousokuya, heavy as Fushitsusha. Super dense production, at times almost an experimental record. I know that Onward to Golgotha is considered the masterpiece (and I am trying to give it time), but this could easily be gateway album for those into heavy Japanese psych. Hahahahaha...
