How is the PSP version of clay-mation Platypus shmup?

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

I recall asking in the past here on the old Shmups.com forum, about if Cave would be willing to do such a "clay-animated" shmup but was told that Cave really doesn't like to stray out too far when it comes to making it's shmup properties in the overall visual department...

As far as animation goes, yes, I understand the tedious and heavy workload involved in the traditional animation process -- it's worth it in the end if done right the first time... ^_~

What are your opinions and comments on the clay-mation produced shmup title for the PSP format and is it worth the price of admission? ^_~

We had a thread of this game before.

Very long stages, boring, and not fun.

Stay away.

Never heard of it, but I can't see how something like this could work. It even sounds old and archaic.

I would say it is average. Of course it is not typical cave score em up  but why not get it if it is cheap? My wife bought this brand new last year for $19 at Game Stop! She is like it anyways, I play it a couple time and I have play far worse…I find it a fair game and should at least be experienced.

It is compare in quality and style similar to Aegis Wing on the Xbox 360. Of note, the default difficulty is set at Easy -- change it to normal in the options menu. So being a USA fellow with a PSP looking for some shooting action after Gradius Collection, there is Platypus

agreed... star soldier is pretty much the only worthwhile native psp shmup i have found. you're better off sticking with the pc engine emulator :)

How is that by the way? Is it hard to play at with the PSP turned up like that? Is there an option to rotate it?

i think it's fun to hold the psp that way. it's not uncomfortable for me, and no i don't think it has any rotation options

True story: due to the shady publisher the original creator received nothing for this port.

you ge tused to the control in no time... at 1st its kinda... weird, but past the 1st level, you're right at home playin this one. i play it with the analog stick, and shoot with the R shoulder button, while triggerin the second wepon with any other button.

and no, theres no option to rotate it... the game wouldnt look any good rotated anyway.
