NYC arcade shmup locations

Post by OdiousTrident »

I know the Chinatown Mott(?) St. arcade has Viper Phase 1, RF Jet, and Gigawing. Any other essential spots? I bet there are Cave games in the boroughs its hard to say though.

Someone just asked this, put it all in the same thread for future searchers. :)

No one has discussed possible cabinets in the NYC area of which I'm hoping/sure there are a few. Flushing is my best bet.

Shmups are in unfortunately short supply around here. Basically, the arcades I know of are:

- Chinatown Fair: as mentioned, theres a Viper Phase 1 (set to 2 lives and with crappy sticks that don't always register diagonals), Giga Wing, Raiden Fighters (not Jet) and a Mars Matrix machine with severe burn in that (I think) gave up the ghost recently.

- Kong Man: No shmups. But whoever runs the place must be a huge SNK fan because any KOF related game will show up right upon release.

-Smiles(?): Seedy looking place right off of main street, flushing whose entrance resembles a strip club more than anything else. No shmups there either, but the selection of lightgun games is absolutely insane.

-Dave and Busters: Located in Times Square. Boasts, overpriced games and beer. Doubt they have any shmups unless you count galaga.

-Carim: Pool hall in flushing that has Strikers 1945 III on a burned in / mis calibrated monitor with crappy sticks. Woo.

So yeah, NYC sucks for shmupping.
Good luck or cry.
