Anyone could make me VGA cable for DreamCast?

Post by SAM »

DreamCast could output VGA directly, if a certain two pins of the output is shorted. I know there is an official VGA connector, but it costs ... well more than an DC unit if you could find one.

So it would be a good idea to find a 3rd party or homemake one.

3rd party DC VGA connector is really not a good idea, since some of them are just upscan converter and dosen't make use of the DC native VGA mode. (If I got the wrong one twice, it would costs more than the official one.)

So a home make one would the the best. The problem is most DC cables won't connect the pins I need and so I don't know how to make one myself anyone could help?

(The only other solution is to open up the DC solder wires directly to a female VGA plugs. But in this case the DC could only run at VGA mode i.e. couldn't play non-VGA games and I am risking the whole DC console if I failed...)

So it would be best if some one could make me a VGA cable.

(I could pay in US Bank Personal Cheque or PayPal.)

Sam,

You just need a cable with 2 ends on it. I have this one

http://cgi.ebay.com/Sega-Dreamcast-VGA- ... dZViewItem

Its cheap and cheerful, runs beautifully. Some of the box ones have audio isses (crackling) for some reason on the RCA's. Its better to get a cable like this one (has 3.5mm jack for PC speakers or you can buy an adaptor).

It would cost someone this much to make a cable, so why not just buy one already made?
This industry has become 2 dimensional as it transcended into a 3D world.

The Official Sega VGA Box is cool one to get...

Post by PC Engine Fan X! »

Sega of Japan did release it's Official VGA Box adapter for it's DC console and has the following outputs:

*VGA output

*1/8mm Stereo Headphone output jack

*S-Video output

*RCA Composite Video output

*Left & Right RCA Audio Output Jacks

This Official DC VGA Box Adapter retailed for 6,000 yen in Akihabara district of Japan back in early 2000. It sells for more money nowdays on the second-hand console gaming accessories market..... ^_~

why go through all the trouble of making one when the one beam mentioned in the above post is perfectly fine. and at $16.95 that's very doable.

i myself have the boxed version of $20.95 but there is no performance or quality difference between them.

anyway either of these are very well worth their money.
