I noticed that in some specially marked boxes of Kellogg's cereal, you can get an XBox themed minature LCD-based handheld game -- one of the five different ones available is a shmup based one... ^_~
This is the second year that Kellogg's has teamed up with XBox to include such premium mini LCD-based games inside such kid's cereal...2006 was the first year that such a tradition has been started. For our international shmuppers, sorry, this free LCD game offer is for USA residents only... ^_~
If you can find the Kellogg's Cocoa Krispies 17.5 oz. size with following "best before this date & production code" listed on the top of the box:
Oct 02 2008
KBC 014
Odds are higher that particular box of Cocoa Krispies cereal will contain the XBox "Reactor" shmup based mini LCD game... ^_~
Descriptive text taken from the backside of the cereal box describing this "Reactor" mini LCD game:
"Your Mission: Fight through defending alien ships and destroy the enemy power source! Four levels of extra-terrestrial difficulty!"
Good luck finding your free XBox "Reactor" shmup mini LCD game...

Kellogg's right on the money when they include such special prize premiums like mini LCD games inside kid's cereal -- it's not like that's an everyday occurance though...once a year for offering such an LCD game is better than never. But then again, I could just go to my local Target or Wal-Mart & pick up such mini LCD-type games for a mere $2.00 USD or so -- they may be good for a few minutes of gameplay and tossed in the drawer for a later quick "pick me up" gaming session...FrederikJurk wrote:I saw a commercial for those on the TV and the kid played on one of them and really freaked out over it.
Yeah right, over a tiny LCD game. In 2007. I thought they switched to attaching CD-Roms with games completely. But it appeals to the oldschool crow, apparently.
The real cool LCD-based game handhelds are the ones that were made by Nintendo (Game & Watch handhelds), Casio, Bandai, etc. back in the early 1980's and command some hefty prices on the secondary collector's market...
Bandai went as far to incorporate such exspensive & exotic solar panel technology in two of their LCD-based portable games back in 1983-1984 with "Invaders of the Mummy's Tomb" LCD game was cool (in that it didn't need any batteries to power it up but just enough natural sunlight or artificial lighting to get it to work properly) and it was pure gaming bliss from the get-go... ^_~
It's the treasure hunt mentality of getting such a hard-to-find LCD game (in this case, a shmup based one) makes it all worthwhile..... ^_~

Re: FREE shmup-based mini LCD game inside cereal box! WTF?!
correction: we have these in german Kellogg's alsoPC Engine Fan X! wrote:For our international shmuppers, sorry, this free LCD game offer is for USA residents only...
only the first three of the bunch though:
Spaceship Blaster - Eliminate the enemy spaceships before they reach you
Disco Mania - Copy the dance instructor's moves to move through the levels
Mystic Castle - Navigate through the castle, collecting gems and defeating enemies
Motorcycle Madness - Avoid or eliminate oncoming traffic to move up a level and win
Robo Blast - Capture the robots before they escape
but i think you are refering to "spaceship blaster" as "reactor" anyway?

as soon as i was aware of these i bought a pack (the cereals are still sealed - not really my cup of tea...) - sadly i got the awful "mystic castle"

Thanks for the correction...I wasn't aware that Kellogg's distributes it's kids cereal brands internationally. ^_~
Actually that Spaceship Blaster mini LCD game was given away in some Kellogg's kid cereals in the USA last year. I was only able to score Robo Blast & Mystic Castle mini LCD games...not bad for two out five mini LCD games released.
For this second year, Kellogg's has all new redesigned mini XBox LCD games to hunt down for in either special marked Kellogg's Frosted Flakes or Cocoa Krispies 17.5 oz. sized cereal boxes... ^_~
