I took the plunge into insanity (PCB's)

Post by lawnspic »

Well i just sold all my good stuff including my 360 for a supergun, two boards, a neo stick+extension cable. I'm hoping this is the experience i have waited for for the last two years. It took alot of explaining to do to my skepticle wife, and my friends are like super gun what ! They dont understand and only the few here do. Any way cant wait to get all this stuff hooked up. Next Jrok encoder for SG, Cave kit(i hope) and make more money.

I didn't get much attention as far as my supergun. Unfortunately its a hobby only I am into.

Cabinets were a different thing altogether though. First it was like WTF! But put a stool in front of it and watch scanlines burn into their retinas.

Let me know how it goes, I have wanted to take the plunge as well, but fear I will be broke if I do :)

There are some great titles for ST-V. If I had one I go right for Die Hard Arcade

congratulations!

i got into pcb gaming early this year and think it's very rewarding! playing them in their original form can be really fun. don't buy to many games but rather buy the ones you really like and play them to death. :)

Agreed. ST-V version of Die Hard Arcade has zero loading time while the Saturn version keep loading every couple of seconds.

It's very annoying.

Dude, you totally don't need to get Radiant Silvergun for STV unless you're paying on a cab. The Saturn version is the port ever.

Hope you either:

For lawnspic,

Once you get bitten by the "arcade PCB collecting" bug, there's no known cure...once you've tasted what the world of arcade PCBs have to offer, you can't go back to being just an console-based player/owner..... ^_~

Yes, by acquiring your first Cave arcade shmup PCB, you just can't stop at just one...as there are others to discover and/or try out. ^_~

Add

4) Plenty of storage space.

It's a little bit disturbing when your game room alone is not enought to store all of your PCBs anymore.

"Hey guys, come over to my house to check out my SUPER GUN."

I hope nobody will have wrong expectations. Who came up with that name?

On topic: Congrats!

This is why having MAME and hundreds of games at your fingertips can be a huge crutch sometimes.

This is truth. ESPECIALLY for arcade games. (Neo Geo CARTRIDGES are as much as any PCB, so yeah, it's pretty damn useful)

Though having the PCB is nice...

Here is going to be your dilema pretty soon:
Even though you want to keep your spending under control and limit yourself to the games you really like; you end up spending more and more because some other game that you also like only pop up really rarely and you end buying it because you start to wonder: will it ever pop up again ?. Then before you know it you have so many PCBs you spend more time trying to decide which game to plug in rather than playing the game itself. The next step in your addiction will be : "I must have the full kit" syndrome. Welcome to hell. :)

I was thinking the other week, holding a Galaga 88 in my hands "This still works, and its 20 years old next year"

When you think about it, CD players were hot in 88.. Its amazing to think I enjoy something so much after all this time and it still works.

Same thing with my 1986 Capcom Sidearms PCB -- still works like a charm despite it's age... ^_~

Treat your PCBs with care & respect and they'll last a long time in the years to come... ^_~

I just sold two Sat's and had RS for it, but im like a kid with a new toy, gotta have it!

My home wont allow me to tate (no space and my main TV is a Hi-scan 36 in Sony HD Wega that weighs 250+lbs.) so i decided on these two because there hori verts. If i could Ibara or Galuda would have been my first purchase

I really need a Magstick plus, im thinking of building a stick since neo pinout is easy and does not use circuit board like a PSX

I don't see why "self control" should be anymore of an issue with PCBs than with console games. :?:

Because PCBs cost a billion times more.

And because PCB games are generally rare. Many people want the classics.

I've just bombed $420 on pcbs this week  That'll be it for a while I think... well, until the next rare classic comes up

PCB's are one of those commodities that seem to turn up just when you spent your last $200. You can never plan a PCB purchase in my experience. Its always balls to the wall, cut throat stuff for me

There's lots of expensive and in-demand console games out there too, especially when it comes to shooters. Radiant Silvergun, Border Down, Eliminate Down, Sapphire, etc.

Many of my PCBs were cheaper than those console games.

The first consolized PCB player I ever saw was litereally named "Super Gun", back when Street Fighter 2 was all the rage and before there was a home port. I think for most other people this was the first machine of its type that they had ever seen, so that could be why the name stuck.
