Not only the sound effects, but the scrolling is terrible (but then again it's from Micronet, the company of lame games).

Hellfire had some good sound effects.

The Mega Drive was notorious for having horrible MSX-style scrolling and the least amount of scrolling layers out of all the consoles in the generation.

I played a MSX before and yes they are some terrible scrolling in it. Genesis is far from that.

It's not far from it. Let's face it, the Mega Drive hardware was extremely underpowered for its time. The reason Yuzo Koshiro's music was revered is because he found out how to manipulate the YM2612 chip to do more than play the built-in Toejam & Earl theme song function.

part of learning the shikigami no shiro series (possibly extends to any shooter) is to resist pressing the start button after you lose all your lives the second or third run through, regardless of whether you have a credit limit or not

also, a 1 at the end of your score does not count as a 1cc
